Very clean, very tidy, very friendly and very helpful. Great little spot as a base for Fiordland National Park. Owner very knowledgeable about all the local attractions and eateries, and he takes a decent photograph too.

Mid-range motels in New Zealand seem very similar to one another, and this one does not break the mould. The owner is a very helpful New Zealander of the old school, with a good knowledge of horticulture. This motel, along with others in Te Anau, is particularly convenient for a night before the drive down to Milford Sound and back (two hours each way), ensuring that you are relaxed before the shock and awe. Driving from Queenstown to Milford and back in one day is not recommended, either from the point of view of relaxation or road safety.
All is present and correct in the rooms, with a decent kitchenette and a basic but clean and functional shower. Cleanliness is very good. The doors opening onto the parking spaces are single glazed, so better hope that your neighbours don’t rev up too early in the morning.
Te Anau itself is an unremarkable small town/ village, with a supermarket, filling station, DIY shop, pharmacy and several basic restaurants.
Raw scores unadjusted for price:

Bed/ bedding 2.5
Other furniture and furnishings 2.7
Bathroom 3
Other facilities 2.6
Cleanliness 3.5
Friendliness 5
Noise/ privacy 2
Convenience/ proximity 4
Surroundings/ views 3
Service 3

I rate full scale, and not just one for bad and five for good. Taking into account baseline pricing in the neighbourhood, my “value for money” formula gives this motel 4.0 out of five, meaning that I found this to be a very good choice.
I would commend this place to singles, couples and families of all ages wishing to visit Milford Sound.

This is a little Te Anau town where lot of people stay in order to get to Milford Sound in the morning. The hotel is centrally located, nice, clean, small with all amenities, including electric blanket, a complimentary small bottle of milk.
Bathroom sink is rather small with two separate faucets for hot and cold water (inconvenient), shower is great
Good value

This is standard motel accommodation, but with very spacious and clean rooms as well as a friendly manager who helped us with a few tips about the area. Overall we had a great stay, the area is quiet and pleasant with a 1-2 min walk to the lake and less than 10 mins to the main street. There is daily cleaning service included as well as a self-service laundry area. The only thing that was a bit complicated for us was food storage/ preparation. Our room didn't have facilites to actually prepare food, only a water boiler & microwave (maybe some of the bigger rooms do, though I don't think there are any common facilities). Also the fridge could only be about half full, because anything placed too close to the freezing compartment would be frozen over. Aside from these small remarks, everything else was great, and the main reason we had some problems with food is because we were coming straight from Stewart Island with a big cooler bag full of things we'd needed for cooking there. Either way I would recommend it for a stay in Te Anau and also for bigger groups since our room could easily have fit four people.

We can off the Kepler Track to stay here for our base motel. The rooms are quite big, beds very comfortable and location good as well. We think Te Anau is the best location for Fiordland and this is a very good value!
