My wife spent a few days during high season at the Fiordland National Park an amazingly beautiful corner of New Zealand. We based ourselves at the very convenient town of Te Anau. Almost all accommodations in this attractive town are motels and B and Bs of varying size and quality. We stayed two nights at another motel down the street from the Alpenhorn based on glowering reviews from TA. What a mistake it was- it looked worn and smelled musty. Worse it cost over 50$ a night more.
The Alpenhorn is well looked after and our room was very clean, comfortable and well maintained. It had no musty smell and the large wall of glass provided lots of light and sunshine. Also the small kitchenette was in a separate room with a door so you don’t have to worry about preparing your food next to wher you sleep. Like all motels in this town you get free wi fi and hot drinks (self prepared). The price was really cheap despite high season, less than 100$US a night. This was a real bargain for such a comfy, clean and central facility. It was not fancy by any means but it had everything we needed for a short stay. The downside is no room makeup or cleaning and other services are limited.
We were very happy with this place and would recommend it to our friends.More
