Windy drive out to the peninsula, mystery around every corner. Stunning scenery and seal colonies and albatross in flight to view, wonderful.

We had a wonderful day visiting the Royal albatross sanctuary where 4 chicks were nesting on the grassy slopes. Have a look at their website for more details. The pub at Portobello did a great seafood chowder. Hoopers Inlet on the way to Allen’s Beach, is an undeclared bird park with so many birds wading in the waters. Allen’s Beach has great surf and maybe a wild sea lion might be sun baking on the beach. Portobello Road is a great driving, bike riding or Vespa riding experience all the way to Harrington Point. A wonderful understated peninsula on a world scale. Oh did I forget the views, the fishing and watching Albatross flight behind boat (take binoculars)

we really enjoyed driving around and exploring the Otago Peninsula, great attractions like the albatross cruise on the MV Monach, and a visit to learn all about the albatross breeding area.

Beautiful part of Dunedin. If staying on the Peninsula, don't forget your grocery items as it takes at least half an hour to get to shops from here. Royal Albatross centre is a must see as is the Otakou Marae almost hidden up on the hill. Take a scenic boat trip to see all the wildlife.

Thank Rhondda H
