Description: Avida is inspired by the tapas culture of Spain. We champion the wines of Jerez & Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and those made from tempranillo. We also like gin. Our menu is full of dishes designed to be shared. Plates are served as they are prepared. We suggest two or three dishes per person.

Popped in here without a reservation, we were promptly seated and offered menus and advised of the fish option. We placed drink orders which arrived pretty quick. We elected for tapa style dinner, unfortunately a few of our selected options weren’t available. Our favourites were the croqueta rice and empanadas, the fries for a small serving were way to big and a waste. We elected not to have dessert. Our waitress for the evening was awesome attentive and polite and happy to offer advice on our meals.

We called in at 4pm on a Tuesday evening and were promptly seated at a warm table by the gas fire. The service was impeccable and the drinks list ample. Our glasses were refilled promptly and dirty dishes cleared immediately. When we left around 5.30 there was a waiting list! Im not surprised.

Good setting, great food and some of the best price and quality tapas in Wellington. Drink list is also good - delicious mocktails.

We were late in arriving for our reservation and were reprimanded so rudely by the young woman at the front door. Just appalling customer service. We were a large party and spent in excess of $400. The food was very average and overpriced, but had we had better customer service I wouldn't have been too concerned. As it was our table staff were ill-informed of the menu choices, and the snotty young lady playing at maitre d' was quite simply the rudest person I have ever encountered in a restaurant anywhere in the world.

On one occasion a group of us went to Avida for a catch up and we had some drinks and asked the waiter to bring us a good selection of their tapas. Everything he brought us was delicious and he got the quantity just right too. My husband particularly liked the cockles and I really enjoyed the goats cheese and honey 'puffs'. I went on another occasion to meet a friend and again the service and food was excellent. The wine recommendations were spot on for us both and it's a great place to meet. I gather it is very cosy in winter too and I will most definitely go back when I am back in Wellington.
