Service is second to none. The staff are very accommodating, matching half glasses of wine to the alacarte menu because we were driving. The work that goes into the food is incredible. A work of art that tastes devine.

Thoroughly enjoyed the degustation menu and matching wines. Great service - attentive without being intrusive. Important to book to reserve your table.

... before the changeover in September, and Simon and Creghan leave. I love Sid's amazing food and look forward to "Sid at The French Cafe" after the change, but also have really enjoyed Simon's food over the years and will miss him.

We had the tasting menu, including the optional cheese course. As expected the food was amazing, with reasonably generous portions for a degustation menu - a salmon and prawn dish, venison tartare with berries, mushrooms and egg in a broth, pork belly with scallop, lamb with figs. The cheese came out as individual servings which was a nice touch touch. The dessert of lemon curd and cherries almost pushed us over the top. Of course there were delightful little amuse bouche and palate cleansers as well.

Three of us went for the premium wines paring. With one exception these wines were really special and interesting - the Felton Road Pinot Noir, 24 year old German Riesling and the Austrian Zweigelt being the highlights for me.

Truly a special meal and nice to share the treat with our first timers. Will get back at least once more before the changeover.

Haven't been in French cafe for probably 5 years. Previously it was certainly the best restaurant in Auckland. However with so many choices in Auckland I haven't been back. After learning in the news that it is changing owner I feel I had to come visit before the changeover. Overall the food and ambience is still as good as previously but I feel it is more casual and less extravagent - maybe it is the overall trend for the whole fine dining scene?

Went there with a friend and go with the degustation menu which has 6 courses and we went with the premium wine pairing. All 6 courses are very good with the highlight being the mushroom dish, the pork belly dish and the lamb dish. Also a note worth mentioning is I really like their wine pairing - better than other Auckland degustation restaurants.

At the end of the meal we told the maitre D that we will come back after the changeover and observe if there are any differences.
