Owner description: The Broome Historical Museum provides photographs, subject albums and visual displays to provide visitors with an understanding of Broome from its rough and ready early days to its emergence as a World Centre for cultured pearling. Broome was the first truly multicultural district in Australia; Aboriginal, Japanese, Chinese and Europeans have all contributed to Broome’s very diverse cultural history and the Museum, in its exhibits and its albums reflects this richness.
Useful Information: Bathroom facilities, Activities for young children

We spent much longer there than we anticipated and came away better informed particularly about blackbirding, the risks even today of diving for pearls and the WW2 bombings. The collections are informative, at times quaint and quirky, and this museum is a useful stop for new arrivals. On our travels, we met others who spoke enthusiastically about their visit. Thanks to the friendly volunteers who keep this going.

This one has got some quite interesting diving memorabilia, although parts of it look more like a second-hand store, or someone's cleanout of their grandparents house. A good collection of shells out the back.

This museum is very local with artifacts of everyday life around Broome as well as a lot of pearling history. Its very quaint and not expensive to visit.

The museum showed in detail the fascinating pearling, the meat works industry, and the incredible WW2 bombings and the part Broome played on the west coast. The indigenous stories are well represented. My favourite part was the Sail Makers Exhibition. Too much for a quick visit.
