I've been staying at The Great Southern (formerly Hotel Enterprise) for over 20 years whenever I'm in Melbourne for work or pleasure. Seen some big changes over the years but one thing has never changed. That's the friendly and courteous staff, who, while the faces have changed, the service hasn't. The refurbed lower level courtyard rooms have really improved and the newer rooms on upper floors are exceptional.

Room Tip: Superior King Court yard room, and for a bit of luxury one of the upper floor rooks (or one of the spa rooms

Good for solo travellers/ business but not for family. Room I was given was a really small room but it was clean. Great for people staying over the weekend. Staff were friendly and helpful. Pretty well located in the CBD near Southern Cross Station.

Was quite disappointed in the hotel policy for late check outs. I only arrived in Melbourne around 10 at night and requested a late checkout the next day but was told that every hour for a late checkout would cost $10 AUD. I essentially had the room for less than half a day and had to check out at their standard checkout time at 10am.

Nice place to sleep. Clean. Close to Southern Cross Railway Station. Cbd so close to everything in the city. 25 minute walk to Docklands, Queen Victoria Markets. Close to Federation Square, in fact close to everything. Plenty of eating venues and bars etc.

Down here for conference and only needed a room to sleep. Best price in Melbourne that I could find. basic budget hotel but the room was nice and staff lovely. For the price I’m very happy. I’ve stayed in much worse and paid a lot more for it. If you want somewhere basic and cheap and not precious then I recommend here. Restaurant is also cheap and nice food

We stayed here because of the great location but next time I would stay somewhere else nearby. After reading reviews I upgraded our room before arriving so I would not like to stay in one of the cheaper rooms and after doing further investigation could have stayed somewhere much nicer for similar $. We had no window to the street so this made the room feel depressing. We did literally just sleep here but still would like to see out. The bathroom was modern and the room clean however

Stayed: December 2017, travelled as a couple
