I booked an apartment at Wyndel Docklands for a week at the end of December and enjoyed my stay thoroughly. I'm a regular in Melbourne and have often stayed in rental apartments in the Docklands area and found this excellent.

1) Location and views: the flats are located in a large and impressive 40+ floor building on the CBD side of Docklands, just off Bourke st and next to the Etihad Stadium. The location is excellent - not only do you get the full Docklands feel and beautiful Docklands and Victoria Pier views from both the living room and adjacent bedroom but at the same time, you are just a pedestrian passageway from Southern Cross Station (Melbourne's main rail station, notably for all long haul services, about 5-7 minutes walk) and the stadium. The Docklands line of the Airport Skybus stops right in front of the property (every 30-60 minutes) and leaves a bit further north on the Espanade (5 minutes walk at most) or Southern Cross has the main Skybus terminal coming and going to/from MEL airport every 10 minutes every day. The Harbour Esplanade and podium passageway to Southern Cross each have their entrance.

There are plenty of trams (all free within the CBD) that stop by or a minutes walk from the apartments. The Central Pier stop on Harbour Esplanade has the 35 City Circle line which goes all around the CBD, and the 70 and 75 routes towards Flinders St, Flinders St Station and Federation Square. a few more minutes north, the Etihad Stadium stop has the 30 route along Latrobe and 86 which crosses the CBD and off Southern Cross is the 96 route to St Kilda Beach. Also plenty of tramways going along Bourke and Collins.

There are two large supermarkets within 10 minutes walk. Coles just of Southern Cross station and a Woolworths at Victoria Harbour. If you like shopping in markets, the fantastic Queen Victoria Market is about 20-25 minutes walk or take tramways 30 or 35 and walk 5 minutes from the Flgastaff or Elizabeth Street stops. The recent DFO Southbank outlet is just the other side of the river (about 10 minutes pleasant walk) with a lot of clothes shopping at very good prices and plenty of restaurants or skip the shopping and walk along the Southbank all the way to Fitzroy gardens and beyond.

2) The flat. Mine was a 1 bedroom flat (not sure if Wyndel has any larger ones). Well sized living room with fully equipped open kitchen, bay windows, and a narrow balcony in front overlooking the harbour (unfortunately too narrow to put a table and chairs but nice for standing up). The living room open to the bedroom through a sliding wooden door. The bedroom is very pleasant with large windows also overlooking the harbour and built in wardrobe. At the back of the living room, next to the apartment door, there is a dining area with large table and chairs. There is a shower room complete with washing machine and dryer. Everything is well-proportioned and pleasant. The flat is perfect for one or two guests who'd be staying in the bedroom. I don't know if any more than that are allowed, but even if they were, it's worth pointing that the sliding doors do not give as much privacy as 'regular doors so I don't think it would work for more than a few days.

3) Amenities: very well equipped: washer, dryer, dishwasher, airconditioning, unlimited wifi, Foxtel (or some equivalent), etc. I think a parking can also be booked for a fee though I did not have a car.

4) Service: my main concern booking this was that as this is not a hotel, you have the risk of less flexibility and support. However, this proved almost the opposite. From the start, Lilly was extremely helpful contacting me to prepare my arrival and Francesca came to welcome me upon arrival. Note that there are specific times when you can arrive for check in though my experience with the team is that they try to be as flexible as they can when you have no choice as they showed for my check out before a long international flight. Obviously, this is dependent on availability but they tell you that they try their best and really do.

5) Overall. I loved my stay thoroughly. I love Melbourne and know it well, and for my taste, furnished apartments are the way to go for all but the shortest stays. It's great to be able to buy your own food and cook - you'll get yourself a great wagyu porterhouse or a small crayfish from the Queen Vic market for the price of a burger in a café, what's not to like. The location is great, the service was fabulous and very personalised, the apartment is lovely with great views and excellent amenities. Will return with great pleasaure
