Where do I start. It is no longer a resort but a place of residence for the homeless/NDIS. Police appearances and fighting amongst the long term residents was constant over the weekend. During a wedding reception the residents made themselves at home in the area that was set aside for the wedding. The grounds are very untidy, Rubbish everywhere. They didn’t even wipe tables around the wedding venue. Rooms very dirty and smelt like cat urine. Felt unsafe as permanent residents would walk around looking into your rooms. Manager/ reception is very rude to deal with. Overall wouldn’t recommend this accommodation, not worth the money

Room tip: If wanting the resort feel this is not the place to be

Nathan Robinson, General Manager at Seagulls Resort, responded to this reviewResponded 20 October 2020

Hi missyemily66,

Thank you for taking the time to review Seagulls Resort. I would just like to clarify that the police where in attendance due to some trouble at the wedding held on Saturday that got out of control. The people involved where not guests of the resort but invitees to the wedding. The safety of my team and guests is priority which is why the police where called, they then did a follow up visit on the Sunday morning.
Regarding the grounds, it was a full house weekend and unfortunately not everyone uses the many bins available, our maintenance and grounds team do their best to stay on top of this but sometimes things are missed.
I can assure you that tables are constantly wiped and rooms cleaned following Covid recommendations having just recently passed a spot inspection.
I am surprised to read that you found the Manager/reception very rude to deal with - I had no dealings with you directly over the weekend and Sally is one of our greatest and most praised assets.
Regarding safety we do have after hours, onsite management available for anyone that needs assistance as well as doing rounds throughout the evening.

Wishing you well on your future travels.

We only stayed here 1 night As we were travelling through but found me a combination of a very good standard. The resort grounds are well maintained ,And a restaurant Is placed within the grounds. Very enjoyable stay. Would definitely stay again. The resort itself backs onto a lovely walk which takes you all around the Esplanade

Seagulls resort does not disappoint!

The beds are excellent.
The staff are wonderful.
The breakfast delicious.
The pool fantastic.
The serenity fabulous.

Everything was a delightful experience from reception to the room to the Restuarant.

The resort was a quiet little haven and the pool was warm and relaxing. The gardens surrounding the rooms were immaculate and well groomed. The rooms, while basic, were clean and tidy and the beds were extremely comfortable.

The resort is centrally located to the Strand, with the grocery store and takeaway shops, hotels and cafes just up the road - 5 minute drive.

We stayed here to be close to the bride and groom to be. I would advise dropping the resort tag and just go with Seagulls. The hotel is very dated, poorly maintained to the point that the maintenance person had to come and rescue our 7 year old who was locked in the toilet. The bed was bad, the air conditioners were old and loud, so not a lot of sleep for the duration of our stay. We would not recommend this to families. That said The pool, pool bar and the food from the restaurant was good. The customer service (Bar and Restaurant) was also very good.

I arrived as a rather loud function was warm in up. The following morning was alarming. The rubbish, cans and overall filth wasn’t addressed until 3 days later, and even then there are still plastic cups and beer cans sitting in clear view along the walkway.
The pool floor hadn’t been cleaned with bark and debris virtually everywhere. The pool walls were also uncleaned and filthy.
Now 4 days in, nothing has changed. I asked if I could have my room serviced 2 days ago. They have a policy that rooms only get serviced every 3 days. Upon hearing this I asked if I could have it serviced today, but nobody turned up...
My room carpet is infested with either flees of thrip. I’ve been bitten so many times, it’s terrible. There are ants everywhere which I’m tipping is due to the bench being sticky and not being cleaned properly. I tried to source another place to stay for my last night in Townsville but unfortunately they were either too expensive or booked out.
Another pathetic point of interest is that there are only 3 pool deck lounges for 60 rooms. Unbelievable! This only goes to show that the guests needs are secondary and the all-mighty dollar comes first.
The overall conditions here are appalling...
I honestly will never stay here again.

Room tip: Don’t stay here.

Hi Dale W,

Many thanks for taking the time to review Seagulls Resort.

I see that you did arrive at around 7.30pm on the Friday night we had a large function at the back of the resort - a great time was had by all and it finished around 11pm with no complaints from other guests regarding noise etc. Regarding the pack down of the function yes we did leave the majority of the clean up till the Saturday morning but i can assure it wasnt 3 days later.

Our pool is serviced weekly by an outside company and cleaned daily by our maintenance team obviously being surround by gardens and palms we do have time when some debris will fall/blow into the pool but this, at worst, will be removed the following morning if our maintenance team have already left for the day.

Regarding being bitten, this would be from the sandflies/midgies in both our gardens and from the surrounding mangroves at the beach. With these bites they often dont become itchy until some time after being bitten which may be why you thought it was something in the room. Unfortunately when in the tropics it is advisable to take precautions as advised in the notice in each and every room. We also provide insect repellent throughout the resort. Our carpets are also professional cleaned as part of our room maintenance schedule.

Regarding the servicing of your room - you had booked a nonserviced room/rate of just $79 per night. This is clear on a notice that was on your bathroom mirror and also written just below where you sign on the registration card at check in.

We did recently have a group in house that damaged 5 of our pool lounges - unfortunately these have to be ordered to be replaced and, although it doesnt help you, we have just received our replacements today.

Once again i appreciate your feedback and wish you well in your future travels.
