I recently drove with a friend from Kuranda to Townsville. A normally 5-hour trip became much longer when we (along with many others) were stopped for nearly 3 hours due to a bush-fire north of Townsville. Having rung the motel to let them know we would be late, we arrived at around 7.30pm, extremely tired. Reception was open and we were made very welcome.
It was such a relief to get into my room: a couple of armchairs, large screen TV, a very comfortable bed, roomy en-suite and good shower, and a small kitchenette with toaster and microwave, which enabled me to prepare some eats that I had brought with me; it felt like arriving home after a long day.
Although an older building, it is very well-maintained and impeccably clean. Moderately priced; easily accessed by car; quiet, even though on a main road; close to the city centre and other features of this city. Although we stayed only one night, I would certainly choose Billabong Lodge for future trips to Townsville.More
