On a recent road trip, we stayed at the Billabong Lodge Motel which is part of the Golden Chain Motel network, and is rated three and a half stars in the motel directory. We were happy with all aspects of the room, except for the rather noisy "window rattler" type air conditioner. The room had been revamped as well as the bathroom and was clean and tidy. All our requirements were met in this Motel room for a quiet and comfortable overnight stay. Undercover car parking is provided in front of Motel rooms and the tariff was very well priced.

Graeme takes pride in how the place looks along with great customer service. Great work on the upgrades Graeme, the rooms look great and the bed was very comfy. I think this was our third stay here over a period of years and we will be back.

Room tip: Rooms are clean, comfortable bed and off street parking.

Here for a few days for a netball carnival. Walking distance to the courts, which was the main reason for booking here. Great Motel though. Comfy beds and reasonably quiet. Good location, near shops and restaurants. Would stay here again.

Rang last minute and booked the family room. Queen bed and 3 singles in the one room with kitchenette and ensuite. Very clean and tidy. Although motel is located on busy road, noise was not an issue. Manager was very friendly and helpful and there was room to park with the trailer.

Dinner was available from the nearby Chinese restaurant, who apparently will deliver.

Good hot shower, and a non rattling aircon, which the manager had very thoughtfully turned on for us before our arrival.

Great value for a relatively cheap room. Thanks for the pleasant stay.

The Billabong is ideally located on the highway into Townsville and has easy and safe parking. I can recall staying here over 30 years ago when my kids were much younger and competing in inter-city sporting carnivals. Whilst the facility is aged by today's standards, the double room was in excellent condition and it was easy to see that maintenance is a high priority. The manager is a very friendly, pleasant and helpful guy, with nothing posing a problem to him. I guess with the years of motel involvement behind him, he is well versed in traveller's needs. Great beds, plenty of pillows and extra blankets. A full range of cooking appliances is available and self-contained. There is no on site restaurant but that is not a problem with the number of eateries and bistros in close proximity. The room was very clean and although located on a busy road, noise was not a problem. The split system air con did the trick and was not noisy. The manager had turned it on prior to our arrival which was a nice touch, especially in Townsville's heat and humidity. WiFi available although I did not use it. All free to air and Foxtel channels available on a good size TV. Cooked breakfast was exceptional. Well cooked and plenty of. Probably the best motel breakfast I have had in years and I have had plenty. Would thoroughly recommend to potential travellers and at $115 you can't go wrong.

Room tip: The back rooms would be better to get away from the main road
