We were a bit hesitant to go snorkeling as my wife isn't a swimmer. The folks at Reef Adventure Centre recomended Quicksilver because they have created a protected area to view the reef, with everything provided including floatation devices and have someone monitoring all the time ready to assist. Lycra suits also complimentary. If you aren't very fit but an okay swimmer, you can take a noodle to keep afloat too. They also offered scuba diving. Heard good reports. The location was in the outer bank so there is more to see. You have about 3 hours at the site.

The trip out was smooth. Staff were always available. Lots of upselling but not pressured. Lots of photos available for purchase. Lunch was served buffet style about when we arrived at the platform. The boat was about 50% capacity, so queue wasn't bad. Otherwise you are delayed getting out to snorkle waiting in line to feed.

The semi-submersible was great - we saw more of the reef and even turtles. You need to queue up or you'll miss out.

I'm sure there are better options for experienced scuba divers and snorklers, but for the inexperienced or cautious, Quicksilver is a great choice.

We were scheduled to go with Quicksilver cruises to the Great Barrier Reef. The weather was terrible, but we still went, or we would have lost out completely. The boat to the reef was clean and fine. I think it took about one and a half hours. When the boat got to the reef, it fastened on to a pontoon, which had lots of equipment and a wonderful buffet lunch. We were shown videos about the snorkelling and scuba diving. There is an area which is designated and lifeguards are on watch. I have never snorkelled before, but I gave it a go. Stinger suits were available to use. There is a semi-submersible vessel, which gives you a great view of what is below the water - brilliant. Unfortunately, the helicopter could not land and take off and so we missed out on a flight over the reef. A wise decision, due to the weather. I'm sure. The staff were very patient with us novices, also those who had queasy guts.

My son and I got our scuba diving card specifically for this trip. 3 dives in Outer Great Barrier Reef - our guide, Gordon was outstanding. I’m afraid we got spoiled - impossible to top this, but we’ll try!

We had a stroke of luck with good weather and a low tide. The crew are very friendly and knowledgeable. We took the 10 min helicopter ride and were blown away by the views. We followed this with a snorkelling tour, being taken up close to the reef on a marine biologist guided tour, Glen was happy to point out and explain what we were seeing. A great day out, definitely worth spending the day seeing the reef.
