Hadn’t been to Darwin for 15 years. Paid a visit to the wharf precinct and what a transformation from the dirty old concrete lay-down area for junk that it used to be. Quite a number of eateries and cafes. An Irish pub as well. Plenty of grass to lay around on. Swimming areas and the wave pool. Easy access to smith street (which runs off the mall) via the foot bridge an elevator. Well done Darwin.

We went back several times for a nice lunch on the wharf, tried a couple of different eateries, all yum!

We watched the daily water based tours leaving from this popular spot. Varying size boats, catamarans, and yachts almost all available for hire. Some cruises with meals, others fishing, or short cruises. We enjoyed watching a bride and groom departing for a tour with their guests.

I first visited Darwin in 1968, then regularly visited between 1980 to 1982 when I was working in the region, and it was a frontier town; today Darwin and in particular the Darwin Wharf Precinct has grown up.

The first thing that struck me was how family friendly it is, it’s clean and everyone is well behaved in what is a fusion of inner city living, dinning and entertainment precinct in a historically significant area.

We visited a cafe on the wharf.thr weather was warm and it was relaxing to look over the sea as we enjoyed our coffee. we visited the Flying Doctor Museum. The experience of reliving the Darwin bombing via virtual reality was amazing. This was supported by a movie and visual displays. well worth visiting.
