This museum is a great size. You don’t spend ALL day here. But defs a couple good hours. Always great local exhibitions and the cyclone Tracy room is really the best part every time! Defs worth the trip I say!

I visited the museum and art gallery of NT in June
A lovely experience, very large area but not too big that you can't take it all in.
Their display of birds and small mammals is wonderful with a huge variety of species very artisticly displayed.
Cyclone Tracy display very haunting and set in the actual era complete with lounge room and radio announcements at the time.
Very modern and airy and a very nice coffee shop and retail shop.
Well worth a visit

Personally I'm more interested in the art than in the museum which is very small. This gallery has an excellent collection of indigenous art & has recently had some very interesting exhibitions- a history of the Papunya school (finished) & currently Defying Empire as part of the 3rd National Indigenous Art Triennial. Upstairs was an exhibition by Franck Gohier an NT artist I had never heard of (being a Melbournian) which was extremely interesting & varied ranging from posters on social commentary to sculptures.long
Be warned that if you arrive by bus (right to the door) there is a gap in the middle of the day between buses, so plan accordingly. Also the cafe was still closed although I was told in January it was opening 'soon' I visit Darwin once or twice yearly & always visit the gallery. The permanent exhibition of cyclone Tracy is interesting if you haven't seen it before

Fabulous visit. I loved this place & more than happy to donate at the end. So much to see particularly the Cyclone Tracy exhibition. Iam sure ‘Sweetheart’ is a hit with the kids but oh my i did not realise crocodiles were so big.
Very well set out & labelled & everyone who visits Darwin should go there.
