We were given recommendations to visit Kepos and were very excited to eat there on our first night in Sydney. We had a reservation for when they opened and we were seated promptly. Realize the seating area is tiny and there really is no table for 5 people, but we squeezed a chair on the end of a 4-top to make it work. Service was impeccable. We ordered a number of dishes to share. The first dish was the hummus and it was amazing. Maybe the best hummus ever. Sadly, the wheels came off from there. Falafel was overfried and had no flavor. Dates with goat cheese and crumbled pistachio were just that..plain and simple and designed to be cold. Nothing really elevated.Cauliflower salad was good. Grilled prawns were just grilled prawns. Chips (French fries) with a garlic aioli tasted fishy (so I wonder if they reused oil or an unclean pan?) and no other discernible seasoning. Potato tortellini with goat cheese was underwhelming. Think we had another dish or two but not memorable. Given the restaurant takes some effort to find and the meal was unremarkable I would say go somewhere else.

The best hummus I have ever eaten. Healthy combinations with treats. Always leave room for the churros - light, fluffy, dusty in gorgeous cinnamon sugar and dipped in the sumptuous Dulche de Leche or Caramel Heaven....Superb.

The venue has lovely atmosphere, and most of our dishes were quite nice, but there was a bit much salt for our taste.
The service was a touch rushed but our waitress was very friendly.
The most disappointing was the wine list. I actually booked over a month ago when the venue was BYO, it was the reason we booked this particular restaurant as we had a special bottle of wine that we wanted to enjoy with a nice meal. Unfortunately when we arrived we were informed that they no longer did BYO. Usually you would expect a restaurant of this quality to update and expand their wine list after taking away this service but it seems they have not. The wines were really average( and that is being generous) I couldn't even finish the glass and we tried four different wines.
Sadly for us this totally ruined our experience and I won't be coming back or recommending it to friends.

We have dined here previously. Perhaps the novelty has worn off a little but we just felt, overall, our visit was not as satisfying as on previous occasions. Nothing wrong with the food but, value wise, it is getting up there! They no longer allow BYO and for us, who like to get our own wines out of the cellar for special occasions, this is a disappointing. There is better value dining elsewhere.

Kepos is a small place in Redfern worth the drive (unless you live in the area). It is a small cafe with few items on the menu. However, the things they do are amazing. The toast with eggplant and burrata was incredible and the churros absolutely perfect. So good, I had to get a second order. The milk shake was a little milky. I know this sounds weird, but I am used to the thicker US versions. Espresso was delicious and service friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a repeat!
