We only went to see the Russell exhibition, which was very good, but we also had lunch there - my husband had a rather meagre toasted sandwich, but I had an excellent anti-oxidant salad.

Excellent exhibition. Really love the art gallery - easy to walk to from Cirqular Quay through Hyde Park.

The AGNSW is in a beautiful setting near the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney. The collections contain fine examples of Australian and European paintings, in addition to indigenous art.

Entrance is free, and there are free guided tours at fixed times throughout the day.
We had a guide, Jan who was very knowledgeable; she took us for Asian Art. Temporary exhibitions require ticket purchases.
19th century Australian art section and Aboriginal Art section are really nice.
Cafe food is tasty.
Museum shop is also good.
Alight at St Hames train station and walk through Hyde Park and the Domain to the museum; this is a nice walk with good views and photo opportunities.
It’s not as good as the Kunthistoriches Museum in Vienna but it’s still good.
