Fantastic location (5min walk to circular quay), 10min walk to Wynyard train station (as others have said, get off here from the airport to avoid taking your baggage up lots of stairs).
I stayed in a 6 person dorm, there was plenty of space (could have fit a few more beds in there!) had an adjoining toilet and separate shower that were clean.
Rooftop space with opera house and bridge views, big kitchen, everything was clean and staff were helpful. Would definitely go back. Was great value for money at $50 per night

The location of this YHA,right in The Rocks is what makes it extra special. Everything you need is right on the doorstep. The weekend markets (fabulous), restaurants, bars, the Bridge and Circular Quays. The views from the roof terrace are so Sydney- wonderful. The many steps of The Rocks will keep you fit but they are a very good shortcut. For anyone requiring more level walking, get off the airport train at Wynyard (12-15 mins walk slightly uphill but only, 7-10 the other way) and it is a gentler straight route. We saw many people struggling with suitcases from Circular Quays station, as we had ourselves. If only we'd known about Wynyard.
We stayed in a private room with ensuite and harbour view of the Opera House! Simple, spotless, comfortable, with fabulous shower, air conditioning and flat screen TV!
Our room was serviced everyday with tea and coffee, and clean towels were always available at reception. Plus there's the added interest of the Archeological Site right below the hostel.
Reception staff were so friendly and helpful (same can't be said of many of the guests at the time, who seemed unable to smile). Wifi was free in common room. The hostel was amazingly quiet too and very eco conscious.
We loved it and will definitely return.

This hostel is on Lonely Planet's top spot of best places to stay. But they do not have hostel prices. This, in 2010 opened modern three-floor hostel is actually more a hotel. We booked a twin room with en suite bathrooms with shower.
Our room on the third floor had a simple double bed and a single bed. Both were comfortable. The window in the room looked at the ramp for the Harbor Bridge. But we had no bother at all of the traffic noise. The room had a hairdryer and water cooker, no fridge (in the communal kitchen), no television (in the television room) and no Wi-Fi in the room, although premium in-room Wi-Fi is available at extra charge. You have to do your own bed and there are no daily fresh towels and bed linen. Ask reception to turn on the air conditioning in the room when you arrive.
On the reception level, four kitchens are available and in the living room, you can order cooked and continental breakfast while enjoying the essential free Wi-Fi. When booking four nights or more a YHA membership saves you more than the yearly YHA membership fee.
The rooftop terrace on the third floor is the place to go. It has a good view on Harbor Bridge and magnificent view on the Opera House (if cruise ships do not block it).

Yes, we can see Sydney Opera House & Harbour from the roof terrace with all of central Sydney in easy walking distance & the Rocks district on the doorstep. This is one of the best hostels I have stayed in (rate quoted is for 4 sharing, ensuite), well organised, immaculate, air con & superb showers with friendly helpful staff. The hostel ran a guided walk from Congee to Bondi beach, the buses would have been a painting work out alone & it was fun - just smother on the sun cream as there's no shade. I think it sleeps over 200 but it never seemed crowded though there were sociable common areas. Great base to explore the area & I'm sad to be leaving.

Room Tip: Book well in advance if you don't want to have to move rooms

I am normally not staying in hostels but this hostel is the exception. Can't beat the location and views. Especially for this price. Yes they have bunk beds and dorms but not if you book a double! Very clean, including the kitchen. Easy stroll into the city. Right next to Circular Quay. Great rooftop. Also very good when travelling as a family. To round it all up. Why stay at a price hotel with less view when you can stay here.
