Probably my fourth visit. It's the first thing that comes to mind when I'm thirsty. But it's not just good for that. Big wine list, I'm only touching on Rioja, still. Yet to discover the sherries.

Many diners in town with good food. This place always makes me extremely welcome with the best service in terms of knowing how much we can have instead of encouraging over-ordering and what type of wines is more suitable not just the high-end choices.

Very nice ambience. Great selection of wines. Good variety of food. We had set share menu which was excellent. Lamb and potatoes in particlar was beautifully cooked. Would have like to have a paella on the menu. Staff friendly and helpful. If full may end up being quite noisy due to layout and hard reflective surfaces.

Casual drinks in the city became a great night out. This bar/restaurant is a little hidden away as it does not have a large street presence. Inside is a long bar, dining areas ( quotes spacious really) and an outdoor terrace, not on the street.

The wine list is “extensive” our sommelier helpful introducing us to a wide range of, always reasonable priced, Spanish wine styles. These always matched with the food.

Order the cabbage salad, it is seriously good, and the jambon with goats curd and dried olive.

The bill was very reasonable, our waitress friendly. This place can easily become a regular.

We read about this place and intended to dine here for dinner the first night we arrive in Sydney. As it turned out we were nearby the area during the lunch and decided to pop in to see if they could have us...and have us they did!

We were the 2nd earliest for lunch that day and was given a lovely table at the end of the restaurant. Service was pleasant and not rushed. Our waiter was really friendly and made some nice recommendations.

We had the mushroom croquettes, cod fish cigarillo, baked oyster, anchovies on toast, jamon serrano marchego to start and then continued with the fried chicken, kingfish cruda and seared yellow fin tuna. For dessert, we had the Spanish donuts and the dessert special of the day - chocolate cake with ice cream. Everything melted into the mouth and we especially loved the lightly seared tuna...it was divine. It was as if a lot of care was taken in the preparation of each dish that they came out tasting fabulous. Our 10 year old son absolutely enjoyed the fried chicken despite it being messy to eat - we were warned by our kind and friendly wait staff.

We ordered half a bottle of wine to go along with the meal and also finished off with a red sangria.

When we left, we intended to come back for dinner which showed how much we enjoyed ourselves there! However, we ended up at Born by Tapavino in the evening which is within the same chain but located at Darling Harbour...this was mainly for a change of scenery.

We will go back to Balcón in an instant, given the opportunity to be in Sydney. Loved the food, the ambience, the service. We will be back for sure :-)
