I always wanted to have a holiday in a less tourist area and not too commercially exposed. A getaway which I can escape from the hustle bustle of a big city for awhile. A place where the authenticity of the local people and a pristine nature of its local surrounding are still can be seen. In Vouni village finally I found both of these in one package!
I was very fortunate to have an opportunity to stay at Vouni Lodge. The old details are still well preserved and maintained here: exposed stone wall, the typical Cypriot entrance door, and not to mention the old and uniquely shaped Olive tree in the courtyard. I stayed on the upper floor, where in the morning, while enjoying my coffee; I can see the beautiful panoramic view of Vouni village.
It's strategically located in the center of the village, everywhere is within walking distance. Many interesting plants and trees nearby the lodge. Local food and tavern with excellent taste such as grilled halloumi cheese, sheftalia, souvla must not be missed. They are only within 5-10 minutes walking distance from the lodge which is very convenience. On top of all thanks to Helen and Toni for their warm hospitality and bravo for Pappous for preserving this lovely village :)
Georgeous old stone house with modern amenities, in Vouni Village.
Beautiful 200+ year old Olive tree in courtyard, parking across the street.
Scenic drive from Larnaca Airport. Owner provides a helpful map which is needed especially once you get to the village which is full of up and down hill narrow roads.
Location is ideal for short drives to the Troodos mountains for hikes.
Don't miss the ruins of the temple of Aphrodite and her birthplace which is a short 40 minute drive.
While in Platres, the start point for hikes in the Troodos, make. Pit stop at the gourmet chocolate shop, run by a charming Englishman. He has delicious chocolates ranging from Aprodisiac ones, to cherry, orange, liqueur, and more all packed in the traditional glazed stone container.
The donkey sanctuary has moved from Vouni to the next village , don't miss it.
Wonderful week end spent in Vouni Lodge, no need for air conditioning, the lovely evening breeze was perfect, I hadn't slept so soundly for a long time, really peaceful, unwinding on the Lodge balcony with a chilled glass of rose watching the sun go down was priceless. Very traditional decoration, yet tasteful and practical, a lovely spot to start discovering the surrounding places of interest.
