Three couples from the Taj Exotica hotel shared a one-night cruise on this Keralan houseboat. The meals were very good. A multi-element dinner was followed by a breakfast with scrambled egg and a vegetarian lunch. We were moored at the riverside during the night. Several different species of bird could be seen, but you really need binoculars. The bedrooms are comfortable and have en suite facilities. The crew are friendly and we all had a great time. Just three couples is perhaps the perfect number for such a cruise.
We booked via our Thomas Cook rep and travelled up by taxi from South Goa. This trip was simply sublime! The sunsets and sunrises were magical. Watching the Sea eagles and Brahminy kites catching fish was a twitcher's dream. Plenty of bird books on board to peruse. Gently cruising up the river keeping an eye out for crocs! The cabins are cosy, basic but clean. The food served was delicious and the captain and crew friendly and knowledgeable. When we hear about the boats stacking up and queues on the backwaters of Kerela now due to it's increasing popularity - we are so glad we came here instead. If we could have captured those 2 days in a bottle and kept them for ever - we would have done. PURE MAGIC! BLISS! Thank you so much.
What a way to while away the hours. Capt and crew were amazing. If you are a bird watcher there are so many species. Beer, gin and amazing food. Serene and comfortable, loved it.
We chose this trip from hotel through Thomas Cook holiday rep Rupesh, an overnight stay on this converted rice boat called Laid Back Waters - we were! There are 3 bedrooms and went with another couple from hotel. We were picked up by taxi when we met the couple who would be in the 3rd bedroom and taken to the Chapora river, and transferred by small boat over to Laid Back Waters by Annan and Guru our two crew members and introduced to Captain Ramesh. All meals were included in this trip, evening meal, breakfast next morning and lunch all cooked by Gopal the chef. We were given a welcome soft drink, any drinks consumed after that were payable. We were taken up the river to watch the sunset which was very relaxing and beautiful and then we anchored for the evening when Gopal provided us with a very tasty evening meal. Annan and Guru looked after us very well and we all enjoyed a great evening. Next morning after breakfast we headed up river taking in the birds and wildlife on the way with Captain Ramesh providing us with his expert local knowledge, again very relaxing. On our return back we anchored and had lunch before we headed back by taxi to the hotel. We all thoroughly enjoyed this very calm and relaxing trip and would recommend it if you fancy a "chill out".
