“a stay in a real medieval castle”

Thank you so much. We loved every room, every beam, every stone. The atmosphere was great as filled with family, friends, laughter, good wine and good food. We followed every recommendation on the Castle’s dedicated website and found new gems too, like Epoisses, that definitely requires a visit. At Chatel-Gérard, I met Marie-Ange, the lady who “owns the key of the town” working at the council, at the post office etc. We also met the new owner of the épicerie, Mme Flot, who is great, and I’ll forward her number so that guests can order their bread before they even leave for the castle! We also found a good place for horse riding,MADAME SEVERINE SOURD, ECURIE DE LA FONTAINE 89200 ANNEOT, which was the girls’ highlight. For me, Noyers, the Grottes D’Arcy, the market in Chablis, the lunch at Maison Paillot were some of mine. We were so lucky with the weather too. so thank you so much for a fabulous stay!

We went with our extended family and had a fabulous time. Plenty of room for everyone. Lovely quality bedding and towels. The pool was great (lights would have been good for evening) but we made very good use of it.
Very helpful team with Ashley, Kate and Andy only a text or call away

“Charming chateau & village – 4 days was not enough!”
Reviewed 4 February 2016 for a stay in October 2015

The chateau was stunning with a warm and charming ambiance. It is beautifully decorated with high ceilings and large sitting rooms with fireplaces. We had great weather for the first couple of days and managed to quickly brave a swim followed by some time by the pool. The chateau has lots of cosy areas to read/relax and a wonderful large kitchen. Although there are 10 bedrooms, we were a group of 4 adults and it was still a perfect fit. The surrounding villages are full of fresh food markets and impressive local restaurants which are well worth exploring. Definitely need more than 4 days!

“An Amazing experience of history and luxury”

What an experience! I have experienced a childhood dream of what it's like to live in a castle. With the notable exception that there is no shortage of luxury in this chateau. The beds (I love a comfy bed), bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas were fantastic, as was the heating (as we visited in winter), but it was that this was all housed in a 15th century fortified chateau with 6 foot thick stone walls, stone spiral staircase, turrets and archer slots that made this a unique experience.

There is no doubt the chateau can easily accommodate a crowd, and I can imagine 20 would still be very comfortable. The dining and lounge room is of castle proportions. The master bedroom was also something special, with the bathroom in the turret. The other bedrooms and bathrooms were also very nice and recently renovated.

We are planning to return in summer with friends and family in tow, and make use of the beautiful pool and visit the vineyards. Although even in mid-winter we were happy and well entertained. Each evening we stayed in and cooked in the impressive kitchen, and sat in front of an open fire fit for a King!

We had some beautiful outings. Each day we paired a visit with a great lunch. The most impressive places we visited were Vezelay, where there is a crypt of Mary Magdelaine in a huge church. We also visited the village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain where the movie “Chocolat" was filmed. It's one of the "beautiful villages of France". As is the medieval village of

Noyers-sur-Serein, just ten minutes from the chateau, which we also enjoyed.

An unexpected highlight was a visit to the Unesco listed Abbey De Fontenay. Not to be missed (do check opening hours on line).

We also tried to visit the megalithic cave paintings of Grottes d''Arcy (near Avallon) to see the cave paintings - the most ancient decorated cave in the world after that of Chauvet, but it was unfortunately closed for winter. Now we have a good excuse to return.

“Phenominal French Castle”
Reviewed 17 December 2015 for a stay in October 2015

What an amazing 4 nights we had at this 12th century castle. A historic real castle on the outside, but all the comforts and modern amenities on the inside. Like a 5 star hotel. My wife and I spent 2 weeks in France and this place was the standout.

Modern kitchen, newly renovated bedrooms and the most comfortable beds we slept on in France. The best part of house is the main lounge area (there are 3!) with an incredible fireplace that looks hundreds of years old. It's like stepping back in time but with modern luxuries. You can tell that the Castle is a treasured holiday home for someone because it feels like a very homely and authentically French house.

It's 10 bedrooms so would be great for large parties but given the value it was perfect for my wife and I and another couple (4 people total). Better than a hotel! What a great base to explore Burgundy and then return for luxury in a seriously cool castle. The location is great. Easy drive to a number of small cute French towns and in easy reach of all the must see attractions of Burgundy.

Would highly recommend.

Hi Adam,
Many thanks for your review - you have summed up the Castle wonderfully and we are so glad you enjoyed & profited from your time there.

We love the castle, and are very priviledged to be able to look after it on behalf of its owners Zeph & Leanne.

We hope to welcome you back again in the future.
