Excellent tour. A slow two hour walk through a Cacao plantation. Ilmer was a excellent guide. Very knowledgeable and he really adds a person touch. You learn the process of making chocolate, but also quite a bit of the history of the Caribbean side of Costa Rica.

Spent a hundred dollars for a family of four. Within ten minutes of the tour we realized this was a big mistake. Although many have mentioned needing bug spray, I would like to add you should bathe in it before you leave. You aren't allowed to apply more after you start walking and we were bitten quite a bit after a normal application. I ended up having an allergic reaction and was at the pharmacy getting steroids after we left. You learn a little about the coco bean and how it was processed. Rough chocolate mixture mixed by hand. The guide was nice, but there is no way this hour and a half was worth the charge. There is another chocolate tour in Playa Chiquita and I'm really sorry we didn't go there.

As a self diagnosed chocoholic, i had to take this tour when in Costa Rica. I was not disappointed! Our guide was knowledgeable about the history of chocolate in his country, about the flora & fauna that had many uses by natives, & when it came to making chocolate from the cacao bean he brought in a native with the tribal recipe. The final product was the best chocolate I have ever eaten.

This place is amazing, amazing staff, amazing guide, you get plenty of information about the culture and whole cacao history and you can see the whole process from little plant to final product - chocolate.
At the end you can taste fresh cacao beans, they even do the chocolate with you according to your choice.

We didn't expect but we have seen in the farm two sloths and a snake - awesome!

We took this tour thru our cruise ship. This tour was very informative on cacao making process. The guided tour walks you along the massive grounds showing you the different plants also wildlife such as monkeys, sloths. Make sure you wear insect repellent with DEET, long sleeve shirts and pants and close toe shoes. They have a lady that makes chocolate at the end of the tour and gives a sample.
