Owner description: Varhaug old cemetery is situated on Varhaug Farm in the municipality of Ha. The cemetery dates back to the Middle Ages and is listed as a cultural monument. The first church was probably built here around 1200, and since then several churches have stood by the cemetery. Today’s chapel was erected in 1951. Varhaug chapel is just over 15 m2 and is furnished with 14 traditional wicker chairs. The small chapel is often used for weddings. In 2003 the chapel was used during recording of the music video for the song Evig Pint (Eternal Suffering), from Kaizer’s Orchestra album of the same name.

We walked Kongeveien (The Kings Walk) from Hå gamle prestegard to Varhaug gamle kirkegård. It’s about 10km and ideal if you’re 2 families with 2 vehicles (one at each end) for a great day exploring the coast. Lots of different sea birds to see along the way, plenty of places to have a picnic too. The reward at the end was the smallest church we’d ever seen. It can seat a congregation of 14. It’s a peaceful place to sit quietly, have some time to reflect and to allow your mind to wander. Worth a visit!

Beautiful little cemetery near Rv44 in Norway. My Norwegian friends explained that this churchyard was the site of a battle between the Norwegians and the Germans during World War II. Several of the crosses have bullet holes through them. The late afternoon sun made the churchyard even more enchanting.

Beautiful little church and beautiful little graveyard....very well kept.

Church was locked when we visited but did not detract from our visit.

The day we visited it was a lovely sunny autumn morning...perfect for a visit and to see the coastline at its best

Small white cozy place with beautiful wild nature and beach view. Only 14 people can go inside at the same time so it pretty small.
