We stayed with Giovanni & Zlatka at #49 Unije. The houses here are just numbered, so that is the address. We had a great stay and they were wonderful hosts.
The guesthouse. The house is back in the streets, up in town. We can catch sight of the bay. It turns out that we are fortunate to not be right down on the waterfront, as the afternoon sun bakes the life out of you. Seriously: shutters closed.
It is not a B&B. We do have access to the kitchen, for no charge. We have a shelf in the refrigerator, put water bottles in the freezer, and could make coffee in the morning. They will let you cook for an extra charge. There is a nice picnic table outside to eat at. We ate mostly at the cafe.
We rented the room with double bed, and they have two apartments. The top floor apartment looks really nice, it is new as of July 2017 and has a nice terrace. The other apartment is on our floor and has a small terrace.
Our room is clean and comfortable with nice cold shower (of course it has warm water as well) and plenty of room. We supplied the toilet paper and shampoo. They will change out the towels if you ask. The rooms are newer, with big wooden furnishings. A lot of plugs for charging devices. The WiFi was good until we got hit in a lightning storm and the router was fried. Takes a while to get a new one sent over. So we used the WiFi at the Konaba.
The room is spacious and clean, and with two windows we had a nice cross breeze and did not have to use the AC. There is a good sized TV, but who has time for it? The location is good, around the corner from the market, just 3 minutes up from the ferry dock. Great shower, mosquito net provided for the bed so you can sleep with the windows open (and enjoy the sea breeze). It is utterly silent here at night. They did a bag of laundry for us, washed, dried and ironed, for 25 kuna. We sure appreciated that.
Giovanni met us at the ferry, but to get to the house yourself just walk off the dock, straight up the street. Watch for the market on your right. At the market, go one more block, turn left, look at the stone house with blue shutters. (see photo).
We showed up early, on the 6:40 ferry from Mali Losinj, but the room was empty so we were allowed to take it. We had a nice coffee upon arrival, sat and talked. We are the first Californians (or Americans) they have ever hosted. If you contact me through this review, I can give you their direct contact information which would have been very helpful to me.
We would stay here again in an instant. Maybe we would spring for the apartment, even though it is for more people. But the double room was plenty big.
