“Can't wait to go back”
Reviewed 6 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Although not in tip top condition, the view from the bed was worth it, not counting the view from the rocking chair! Eating fresh mackerel caught on the beach for breakfast was heavenly. Highly recommend The Olive Tree in Bridport-happy days!!

“This is a very unsafe property to rent”
Reviewed 28 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

I would not recommend this self catering property as it is unsafe.
Despite its fantastic location, the cottage poses a fire risk.
Day 3 into our stay, there was no electricity. The instructions within the house, stated that if assistance was required a neighbour may help. He was most obliging and noted that the 'trip' switch had been activated, but did not know the reason. In trying to detect the problem, he found that the wires from the fridge simply went into the wall, devoid of a socket. The continuing disruption to the electricity supply did not improve during the rest of our stay. I contacted the owner to explain and he suggested I contact the neighbour again. The owner did not appear to grasp the seriousness of the situation.
I also noted at this time there was no fire alarm.
Day 5 the situation worsened, in that the trip switch could not be corrected, so no hot drink, breakfast or shower.
The owner arrived to clean the property before the arrival of the next tenants. I was again explained the situation. His attitude was that this must have been a nuisance. No apology was made.
In this day and age surely health and safety must be paramount. How did this cottage pass any inspection?

We are so sorry that the latter half of your stay was spoilt by the electrical problem. I also regret not making clear that our kind neighbour, while indeed that, is also infact on a retainer to be our 'man on the spot', and in this instance was the best person to continue trying to solve the problem since he is a registered electrician - who also has been employed in managing holiday properties. But my omission clearly gave rise to the impression that i didn't care: this was, and is always, very far from the case.

We take great pride and enjoyment in providing a happy experience for our guests, and in particular take all aspects of 'Health and Safety' extremely seriously. I must make clear that the fridge is plugged into a wall socket in the normal way. There is a maintained fire alarm and fire extinguisher with a fire blanket near the cooker. Our electrical 'consumer unit' was replaced five years ago and is up to the latest specification - and evidently performed very well. All electrical work is, and has always been, carried out by a professional electrician. We have also had portable electrial items such as hairdriers PAT Tested.

The extent of the investigation that these 'tripping' problems necessitate would have been very intrusive during your stay and i understood from you that it occurred very infrequently initially. In the hours after your departure the problem was isolated to a length of cable that had become compressed under boarding in the roof space - it was not damaged and presented no risk of fire or electrocution.

“views and peace, and steps!”

A wonderful place to spend a week- we wished we could have stayed longer.
The cottage is well furnished and comfortable, with all the bits and pieces you need. I wanted to stay longer to work my way through the bookcases!
The amenities in West Bay are good with lots of restaurants and foodie pubs, but the prices are on the high side which could be the Broadchurch Effect. However the kitchen is well stocked with all the utensils you may need for cooking, and if you can look at those wonderful views when eating why would you want to go out?!
The only tiny niggle, especially for our son who likes to watch DVDs, was the rather small telly. However when you sit close to it on the wonderful beanbags it wasn't too much of a problem.
All in all we spent a lovely peaceful week, people watching and walking along the coast path. Thank you for letting us stay in this idyllic place.

“Views were tremendous”
Reviewed 9 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

comfy, cosy, wind and waterproof on a wild night in West Bay, this little house is great. It might need a wee bit of tweaking round the edges but it is great value and West Bay is a gorgeous place to visit. Highly reccommend it.

“Just 36 steps to spectacular views”
Reviewed 4 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

The effort of taking your luggage up the steps is rewarded with dramatic views of sand, cliffs and sea. You can relax outside to soak up the sights or get the same from the comfort of indoors.
Watching the sunset over the harbor is an extra bonus followed by the sounds of the waves whilst you lie in bed.
The house is nice and compact being on one level which makes it feel more homely. West Bay is just down the steps and the shops being so close by, meant we rarely got in the car to go elsewhere, meaning a superbly relaxing holiday.

yes, there's good people-watching as they move to and from the beach or fly kites or career down the shingle slopes - and Lyme Bay spreads out in the background. Thanks so much for your positive comments!
