Best kept secret

Review of St James Manor
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 Jan 2020via mobile
I really do not want to give this glowing review as St James Manor is the best kept secret in Cape Town! We have stayed here for 5 years. We have stayed at all the glitzy places in Cape Town but St James beats them all - from the minute you arrive, nothing is too much trouble. It’s home from home for us and there is not a single negative aspect to the accommodation, care and kindness on offer from all the amazing staff. Thank you again for a wonderful 12 days of peace and serenity.

We spent one night here after being on Rovos Rail. We were met by Lawrence who couldn't have been more welcoming or friendly. He got us a welcome drink of anything we wanted. We had the whole Manor to ourselves as we were the only guests. We had a massive suite with sunken bath. Would have loved to have used it but not with the water shortage. There was a sitting area and, shower and bath and a huge bed.We were given recommendations for a light meal at a nearby Tapas restaurant called Salt about 10 mins walk away. We felt quite safe walking. The food was delicious and really reasonable. We were provided with wine to take with us (good wine and included) and also told that if we wanted to we could help ourselves to whatever we wanted from the bar.
When we got back after a lovely meal we found a chilled bottle of champagne on the house waiting for us.
Later on we noticed the bed had a heated underblanket and getting into it later it felt sumptuous and we both slept really well.
We had been asked roughly what time wanted breakfast and it was all freshly cooked and unusual. Service was great and really friendly.
We were waved off later but would have loved to stop longer.
Recommend here really strongly, We were thoroughly spoilt and felt very important. The Manor house was beautiful.

Room tip: I am sure whatever room you have will be gorgeous

Thank you to Laurence and your amazing team for making our stay so pleasant. We always stay in the same room and had a spectacular whale show this time. Excellent wines and great company at the pub, thanks again to Laurence. Always a treat to be back.
