GOOD LOCATION FOR ACCESS INTO THE PARK

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Aug 2023
The camping facilities were situated on grass with each site having it's own braai, washing up facility and electricity power points. There are a couple of thatched structures for shade as well as a few trees. The ablution facilities were clean and they also offered a place to wash clothes. The lodge is situated on the edge of the Luangwa river with breathtaking views across the water from various areas including their elevated pool and loungers from where you can sit and watch the hippos and crocs right in front of you as well as the breathtaking sunsets at night. We ate at the restaurant one night and the food was excellent. The Zambezi bream is highly recommended. We also went on an afternoon/evening game drive into the South Luangwa National Park which was a highlight. We saw lots of interesting game and were also privileged to see a leopard in a tree. Our ranger was very knowledgeable not only about the flora and fauna but also on his general knowledge of the country which was wonderful as we were able to learn more about Zambia. Peter and Chi Chi were outstanding hosts and went above and beyond to help us when we had an emergency to deal with. We had a look at the chalets situated on the edge of the river and have decided that we will definitely go back and stay in one of them.
Date of stay: July 2023
Room Tip: The chalets are excellent value for money and their position is absolutely stunning.

Thank you Chi Chi and Peter for a fabulous stay at Track and Trail. You’re awesome hosts. Stunning chalets on the river under massive acacia albidas right near the entrance to the park. Food delicious. Team super friendly and helpful.
Loads of animals right in the camp. Glad the baby elephant that fell through the septic tank survived!
Your game guides are excellent. Thank you Vic and Enoch. Stunning sightings of leopard and lion every day. I like the afternoon/night drive combo it works beautifully.
Plus good ethical processes in this place -staying here to supports the local community. We’ll be back!

In Trak and Trail Rivercamp you have beautiful lodges with great host and hostess and friendly and helpful staff. The cook conjures up delicious dishes on the table. The owner knows a lot about both nature and photography and tells enthusiastically about this. When you take a safari with him or one of his guides, it's garanteed you have a fantastic day with several animals en birds. It is highly recommended.

We stayed for three nights in two bungalows. We had a meet and greet with the staff, Cece, - excellent first impression - and it stayed that way for our entire stay : warm, friendly, to the point, always with a smile. And immediately we were impressed by the location : views across the river, hippo's in the river, the sunset and sunrise views of the next couple of days, and the camp itself, well designed bungalows, the restaurant, all very spacious, and the wildlife in the camp : monkeys, squirrels, bushbucks, and ... hippo and elephant. The bungalow is/was above expectation; when you see management pictures on their site or here on tripadvisor, it's always different than the real life 'pictures'. This place is the exception; it looks even better than on the paper picture. All equiped with what you need, bathroom accesoiries, mosquito net, ... Meals are very good, large portions, very tastful, amazing how the chef makes such a delicous dinner in this remote area.
Of course, the most important thing to do is the game drive, the wildlife views, the safari experience. Vic and Enok, the trainee, did an excellent job; outstanding, amazing, ... All kind of antilopes, zebra, girafe, elephant, hippo, crocodile, and, .... three lioness with cubs, the leopard, and above all, the wild dogs. And it didn't stop after sunset : hyena, genet cat, civet cat, chameleon, ....
We should come back for a full day safari to see the other species, further inland ...
    Really recommend this place.

We stayed with our family in two of the huts looking out over the river, for 4 nights. It was absolutely amazing. Hippos and elephants came to graze regularly just at the balcony and everything worked smoothly. The bar has an even better view, it is a great place to just hang out and the menu and kitchen is really good. We had not too much time to enjoy it as it was our first time and we were busy with activities most of the time, under the super- knowledgeable guidance of Vic. He must be one of the best guides there is, knows everything and goes out of his way to show more of the area then we’d expected.
The pool was also very nice and there is a small gym. We had planned to self-cater for most of the meals but that was a bit awkward at first - the self catering hut being rather far away, expensive (60usd/day) and it’s access road occupied by a hippo most of the time. But this was solved smoothly and effectively by the owner and we were given a braaistand at the nearby campsite instead. Great solution for us. We thus enjoyed our stay very much and will visit again maybe for photography course.

Room tip: Make sure you stay long enough to enjoy the beautiful lodge area with nice bar and restaurant, as well as endless wildlife and nature views

    Outstanding service and experience!

Our group of 7 had the pleasure of experiencing Track & Trail River camp through the recommendation from Ryan at Socially Responsible Safaris @srsafaris.

From the time we arrived until we left the camp, we were treated exceptionally well. The warm greeting from owners Cece & Peter, to the staff smiles from Albert and others made us feel welcome and at home.

The accommodations were spacious, clean and had everything you needed for a comfortable stay. The rooms have fans and big nets over the beds to protect you from mosquitoes along with an incredible view of the river. Listening to the hippos snacking on grass outside your cabin was such a special experience. “Pinch me am I dreaming?” was a constant comment from our group during our stay.

The food is - WOW! We had a few in our group with a few food allergies and restrictions and the chef’s made sure that no detail was missed in providing exceptional options for all.

You feel safe and secure when sleeping as Pearson takes good care to ensure you are safe to your room each night with the open camp it’s exciting to hear what animals travelled through the camp at night.

Vic who was our safari guide was OUTSTANDING! We had many game drives from early morning to late evening and amongst our list we saw giraffe, elephant, hippos, buffalo, zebra, lion & 9 baby lion cubs to much much more! The open air land cruiser was covered to protect you from the sun as well as comfortable seating. He had rain coats when needed, blankets as well as delicious drinks and snacks for our break times.

I can’t say enough about our safari experience and look forward to visiting again!

Room tip: No AC, but don’t need it with the fan and cool evenings. The safari can arrange for your transportation and any special requests. All inclus
