Superb shady site near Kakumbi bridge

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Oct 2019
Simply superb service, staff and facilities, on a beautiful shady site overlooking the mighty Luangwa. Lovely clean swimming pool, atmospheric bar, and everything from ablutions, to campsites and communal areas clean and fully functional (which in itself is somewhat of a rarity on most Central African campsites). Overlanders kept separate from other campers, which is wonderful (for us "other campers"!)

The Mfuwe are of South Luangwa has a whole range of camps and lodges all varying in price. We recently spent two weeks at Croc Valley in one of the chalets. We used the camp as a base to do self-drive in the National Park.
Overall I was very impressed, Croc Vally is in a fantastic location with great riverside views across to the park from the lovely bar area, and it only takes a few minutes to drive to the park entrance.
The facilities are very good and all of the the staff were knowledgable and helpful.
The camp has a relaxed and friendly feel to it and can provide everything you need to help you explore South Luangwa,...............and it's great value, I can see no obvious reason to stay anywhere else.
I look forward to returning to Croc Valley.

Room tip: The chalets are a nice compromise, you can self cater if you wish.

We stayed at the camp for three days on the way down to Lusaka. Of courde, the place is magic. You can observe different animals, even hyppos visiting the campsite.
Nevertheless we are sorry, but the camp is not worth 4 stars. Due to the location they are very much priviledged, and this is obvious to see.
Camp site rather untidy, some of the stuff very unfriendly, hospitality unprofessional by the owner. It seems, that due to location they do not needto make more efforts.
Pitty...

One of our stop overs with Intrepid. Croc valley in in the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. The camp is situated at the riverbed with an amazing view. Hippos and crocs and other animals that come by to drink water. Might even get a visit from elephants and bucks in the camp site. They offer games drives in the morning and evenings with snacks provided. There's also a pool to cool off on the hot days.

What a nice place to stay. All the people that work there are really reallykind! They can tell you a lot about the animals that are around. Really nice gamedrives with a lovely guide. It's the perfect combination of a bit of luxury and the African feel, Very relaxed place, great cook! Hippos and elephants walking around at night. Just wow!

Another amazing stay at Croc Valley Camp. Our third trip back to Croc Valley and it delivered everything we expected. Great service, great accommodation, great camp, amazing staff - we could not have been more impressed. Our thanks to Charl Beukes, the owner of Croc Valley, Herbert (camp manager), Thomas and Martin for their great service, with Herbert going out of his way to help - we were made to feel like returning family friends. Internet and WiFi connection was excellent and we were able to easily monitor our businesses from the privacy of our river tent accommodation.

Our stay was in the tented river camp (tent 5), located under the large tree just upstream of the main camp. With a private fireplace on the river bank we had our own private braai each evening (BBQ for those who don't know what a braai is), with fresh food provided by the Chef - food quality was superb. The odd interruption by elephant made for a great cooking experience.

The main attraction for us however is the fact the game wonders around camp all day, everyday. Hippo, elephant, antelope, baboon, vervets, mongeese to name a few wonder in and around the tents, particularly early evening and early morning - no fences or barriers - just simply magic and an absolute privilege to share their world in a non threatening environment. At no stage did any of the wildlife preset a threat in any way - if you treat the game with the respect they deserve you will be rewarded with incredible encounters.

Access to the park was great and our thanks again to Lazarous Banda and the ZAWA gate staff for their courteous service.

All in all we had a very special time at Croc valley and we could not recommend it highly enough to others wishing to visit.

We will be back again next year.
