It was busy, only 1 waitress serving so long wait. Husband had duck and I had burger. Chips/fries were very well done. Pretty average really. Expensive 6€ for bottled water. Not too keen on 2 local dogs roaming around as we were seated outside. Expensive meal, will not be going back.

We arrived just after noon for lunch and were directed to choose one of the tables for two that were free. We chose the menu du jour and enjoyed melon followed by perfectly cooked trout and a strawberry tiramisu desert accompanied by a 50cl carafe of white wine. Even though there was only one lady serving , the service was good and she was patient with our attempts at speaking French.
Would definitely re visit.

This place is for me the embodiment of what a French restaurant should be, a menu based on tradition with good local food, carafes of great wine and professional friendly service.

The menu is just small enough to ensure that a the food is freshly cooked but big enough to give a choice. There is a quirky option for starters excellent fois gras or pate from a local producer served in their tins for 2/3 to share. They come with seasoned salt or garlic and cornichons depending on your choice of pate or fois gras and sourdough crispy toasts. Three of us then had the confit of duck with Sarladais potatoes and a walnut salad this has apparently been on the menu since 1948, with justification as it was superb. Our other friend chose the entrecôte which was perfectly medium rare and succulent. We didn’t have room for desert but they looked yummy. We had carafes of good local wine.

The service was well paced and friendly. I can’t understand other reviewers who complain the restaurant doesn’t open until 7pm and then that the meal took about 2 hours why would you want to eat earlier or more quickly? Relax and enjoy the experience.

This wonderful unpretentious country resto is one of hundreds of the same name all over France. However, the excellence of the cuisine is well known to the masses of people having lunch. We were lucky enough to score a table without a reservation and witnessed many being reluctantly turned away.
The omelette with CEPES, and I mean MANY CEPES was a fabulous example of simple delicious country fare, with a mountain of fresh and scrumptious frites. Also sampeled was the confit de canard salad with amazing , what are probably duck fat cooked potatoes and more cepes!
Portions are very large and very inexpensive.
When in the area, a MUST , but do book ahead!

If you want to have something different than burger for dinner, in this cute medieval river village, you have to wait until 7PM. As usual all around within the region. And there are not so many options. Better to have reservation as kitchen is open only from 7 until 9PM. One smiling, pleasant waitress taking care of whole place. Inside and outside. And here is the issue. Time. We went there 3 at 7 and left after 9PM. Food was very tasty, local Perigord kitchen, duck, salads also filet of sea bass. Deserts perfect, coffee fine. CC are accepted. But too long. Maybe good to relax for somebody, but I haven’t seen a table to have guests replaced. So if you plan to enjoy the dinner there, be prepared. If there is one waitress, you’ll spend 2hours at least. So don’t be hurry!
