Xlendi is a small tourist resort. The town probably gets its name from the word "xelandion" which was a kind of Byzantine boat that possibly used this port. This Bay is surrounded by the villages of Munxar, Fontana and Kerċem. Xlendi is particularly known for its beach. The area is panoramic, with rather high cliffs separated by a valley that carries rainwater from the surrounding villages into the bay which at one time was a sandy beach, however, with natural processes and human interference, the bay is now pebbly.
As we live nearby in Munxar getting to Xlendi Bay takes only about 8 to 10minutes by car. Its clear, azure water is perfect for snorkelling and swimming. Notwithstanding it was almost 19:00hrs the bay was packed with swimmers. 90minutes later we were all seated at It-Terrazzo Restaurant.
Three of us settled for a Pizza, granddaughter preferred pasta whilst I decided to have a go at their Fish Soup. This was an utter disappointment, nothing near the traditional fish soup which is so common with many Maltese families lovers of fish. All I was presented with was a bowl of boiled water with 4 pieces of mussels, similar pieces of clams and what looked like crumbled fish. Very bland, no taste and boring with hardly any flavour for my taste buds...so I simply left it there. Penne Ragu went down well with the little missus. Pizza Terrazzo special, Pizza Capricciosa and Pizza ai Funghi were all eaten up although they complained that they all needed some improving. Pizza can be as simple or as difficult as you'd like it to be. The essentials are the making of a good dough, perfect baking, good tasty sauce and choice of ingredients. Pity as the location is so inviting, it surely merits better quality food.
Add to the food order a bottle of water, 3 bottles of beer and 2 bottles of Iced Tea and the total came well over €60 tips inclusive.
