This air raid shelter is very long and the biggest one in Malta. Very near the church. The attendant is very helpful and will answer any questions you may have, About an hour to see it properly.

At the entrance to the tunnel sat a very pleasant elder gentlemen who collected the entrance fee, when we entered I didn’t expect anything like it was. I though air raid Shelters and just thought it would be a few underground sheds but this place was massive. There’s a lot to Look at and to think it was all hand made Is incredible. It’s very cheap and doesn’t take too long so I would definitely recommend going to see this.

A must visit for history buffs.
The tunnels have been extended since our first visit 15 years ago and there is more info.

Okay....most interesting places close to the entrance with historical artefacts, after that you end up with stairs leading nowhere, long concrete paths and some empty rooms.

A very pleasant old gentleman sat at the entrance to the shelter collecting the entrance fee. We asked him questions and he shared his experience of being a young child in Mellieha during the World War II.
This brought the experience in the tunnels more to life and could imagine what the impact of the German invasion had on Malta. The tunnels were hand dug and I admire those who did such a task, to save lives.
There were not many exhibits inside but walking through the tunnels and seeing a few examples of life underground, was worth the visit.
It wasn't an expensive visit and I would like to revisit another time.
