From the moment I walked into the lobby and was greeted warmly at the front desk, my family and I felt completely at home. Every day were visited by one or more of the owners, often at multiple meals. The food is, of course, outstanding and was served in a lovely space looking out over the lake. The buffet breakfasts featured fresh dairy and meat products from the surrounding valleys, and the fresh fruit spread would be hard to beat. The mango was among the best I've ever eaten. Dinners were 4 - 5 courses of gourmet dishes, with choices between meat, fish, and vegetarian options. The hosts were more than willing to cater to accommodate dietary special requests. Our room was spacious and well-appointed, with a fabulous view over the lake, its forested shores, and the impressive cliff beyond. The only night sounds I noticed were wind in the trees and the occasional slap of a fish from the lake. The property amenities are too many to mention, but the fresh, cold spring water from the tap, warm indoor pool, and complementary rowboat usage were among my favorites. On days when Vienna was sweltering, the Parkhotel site at 830 meters was comfortable day and night. We found the area around Lienz is full of fascinating possibilities: driving the Grossglockner Alpenstrasse in Hohe Tauern National Park, hiking in the Dolomites, visiting Castle Bruck and Roman Aguntum, riding cable cars and summer "luge" roller coasters. We even made a daytrip to Triglav National Park in Slovenia - a beautiful place in the Julian Alps. As we left, the owner came out for a personal "Auf Wiedersehen". In my opinion, this is one of the finest hotels that I have ever had the pleasure to visit.

This is our second visit and, coming from Australia, that says something about this place. Everything is excellent. The dining, the wines, the decor, the ambience, the friendliness....etc....etc.
The Krauser family go out of their way to ensure you have a wonderful stay. We were very fortunate to be there for the last performance for the year of The Flamingos....a great band. The highlight was the trumpeter playing solo out on the lake with just a spotlight on him...it was magical.
The rooms are very comfortable with everything you need. The bed was awesome. The town of LIENZ at the bottom of the mountain is also delightful and perfect for strolling and having lunch at one of the many cafes.
We will, probably be back for a third stay and I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to be spoilt.

My partner and I stayed at Parkhotel Tristachersee for a week with a small dog. Words cannot describe what a wonderful place it is! All 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Firstly, the location of the hotel: it is absolutely magical. A lake surrounded by lush forest 830m above sea level. One of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. The grounds of the hotel are maintained very well. There are fish ponds in the garden, flowers and manicured grass.
The hotel itself: well-kept, cosy and warm. There is a nice spa downstairs and the rooms have everything you need.
The restaurant: the quality and standard of food and service at the restaurant is exceptionally high. Every evening we were spoiled with various culinary delights. At breakfast there is a buffet with plenty to choose from; selection of yogurts, fruit, pastries, cheeses, cured meats etc, etc.
The staff: Kreuzer family and their staff have a 5 star service with a very personal touch. When we arrived, we were welcomed by Ms.Kreuzer and her father, Mr.Kreuzer. We saw them every day during our stay and they interacted with us several times a day. It is a truly family-run hotel. At dinner, Mr.Kreuzer walks around table to table ensuring that the guests are enjoying their time. After breakfast, they would advise us on which hiking trails to take.
Everyone at the hotel is kind, polite and does everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
On the day of our departure, Mr.Kreuzer said goodbye in person and gave us a goodie bag to take home. What a nice gesture!
We will definitely be back at Parkhotel Tristachersee as it is truly a small paradise.
