Malta is relatively small so this location in the South East is ideal if you want to be away from the hotel strip and enjoy an authentic town and yet be driveable to anywhere within an hour. The buses are also available and frequent to Valletta.
We found the villa spacious and attractive and really enjoyed the large jacuzzi.
We ate out most evenings at excellent restaurants and can particularly recommend The Stuffed Olive, Taninu, Tal Familigha and Grabiel.
The weather in late October was warm and sunny, though a strong wind took the edge off the temperature if you were not sheltered from it.
The villa itself was great - We were a party of 8 guys in our early twenties and there was plenty of space, more than what we had initially thought! The property was cleaned and furnished to a high standard which made our stay even more comfortable (as did the air conditioning in every room). We were worried that the pool area at the rear of the property would be shaded for most of the day however this wasn't the case at all and we were able to make full use of it throughout the day.
Beware the electricity costs on departure, you get the first 40 or so units for free but after staying there for a week we had racked up £80 worth of extra charges. We were usually very active during the day so we weren't around the villa to use the electricity, however we did use the aircon throughout the night as well as having a multitude of devices to charge and power.
The villa has great views and it's only a 5-10 minute walk to the center of Marsascala which has a range of small bars and restaurants. We had an unfortunate experience at Uncle Matt's Kitchen, however looking at the reviews for this particular restaurant we appear to be in the minority. We did however have a great time at the Taninu Bistro with it's great food and service.
The main bus stop in Marsascala has buses taking you all over the island, it takes about 30 minutes to get to Valetta and from there you can get an adjoining bus to anywhere on the island. We all bought and made use of the 7 day unlimited travel cards (£18) and would recommend them to anyone travelling to Malta.
Alessandra was incredibly helpful leading up to, and throughout the trip. Any questions we had were responded to within minutes, transfers to and from the airport for multiple groups were handled with ease and recommendations on restaurants and activities around the island were plentiful.
Overall we had a fantastic stay, thanks for having us and I hope we will be back again in the future!
The villa was perfect for us - (2 adults and three children aged 12, 12 and 10). It had lots of space, more I think than is apparent from the photos. It is in a great location, being within easy walking distance of a number of bars and restaurants, and just round the corner from a great little supermarket. There was a garage so we could have rented a car, but choose to use public transport as we only wanted to do a couple of day trips. There is a bus stop with routes to Valetta etc. about 10 minutes from the villa. We arrived pretty late, and were incredibly glad about the airport transfer Alessandra had organised for us - this made life so much easier and was really reasonable. We were then welcomed by Mary Rose who showed us how everything worked in the villa and was really kind and welcoming. She emphasised that she was just next door, should we need anything, and Alessandra also texted and checked we were ok. Everything with the villa was great, but it was very reassuring to know there were people to contact and sort things out had there been any issues or if we had questions. On our last day, they very kindly let us keep our luggage at the villa, and met us and the airport transfer there at the end of the day. We had a wonderful, relaxing holiday, and I would strongly recommend the villa!
This smart semi-detached villa is right on the Marsascala harbour promenade along which a 10 minute walk takes you to shops and restaurants. At this time of year it is quiet during the week with a little more activity at the weekends. There is free parking all along the waterfront, but the double garage under the villa means that parking is not a problem. The villa itself is on the first floor, adjoining one occupied by the very hospitable owners and offers tremendous views from inside and from the two terraces at the front of the building. I guess that the joint building is one of the smartest places in town judging by the number of locals that stopped their walk or jog to take a look!
The villa inside is exactly as described and shown in the pictures. The larger well appointed master bedroom has a small en-suite shower room and there is a further sizeable bathroom with toilet and a shower room with toilet. The other three bedrooms are good sized double/twin rooms.
The kitchen is well appointed with a large fridge freezer and dishwasher, though to use the dishwasher effectively, there probably needs to be a bigger stock of cups and mugs.
Through the master bedroom is a small enclosed ante room with seating and a table that leads in turn to a room containing the hot tub and where the washing machine is located. This room can also be accessed from the pool terrace which is to the rear of the building and which is enclosed and absolutely private and has loungers and a couple of small tables
The hot tub was a great benefit for at this time of year as the unheated pool was too chilly to use.
From the front of the building you get into the villa straight into the lounge/diner/kitchen which is large and has an extendable dining table and comfortable 4/5 seat sofa. There is no shortage of seating and no need for guests to be on top of each other, however, as there are also seats in a sun room accessed to the side of the lounge and from which stairs lead down to the garage.
Marsascala is built up but not obviously a major tourist destination. It has a few shops and there is a little supermarket 300 yards or so away. Bigger supermarkets are plentiful just a short car journey away. There are many restaurants within walking distance that should satisfy most tastes and budgets and the gelateria which you pass on the walk to Marsascala can be recommended not only for its range of ice creams but for its crepes and waffles. This was often a welcome treat for the children on the way home.
For children, there is also a small sandy beach in St Thomas Bay, about a mile away, and a larger one in Pretty Bay, Birzebuggia about 20 minutes away by car. A family play park about 2 miles away is very well equipped for all ages and there is a nearer, modern play area in the centre of town. Confident swimmers can swim off the nearby jetty and harbour wall.
Although a car is useful, it is not essential as buses run past the villa into Marsascala centre from where there are buses to Valletta, the airport and other local places.
Alessandra was very helpful in the planning of the trip and and she and her colleague kept in touch regularly during our stay to make sure that everything was alright.
This was a good quality, fairly priced rental that can be wholly recommended
This is a great holiday villa, and Marsascala is a very beautiful little holiday destination
The villa has plenty of indoor and outdoor space and is as well equipped as you would expect any holiday rental to be.
Not that we used it, but it has a good sized lounge and dining area, and the kitchen has all you will need for your stay.
The bedrooms are recently decorated and refurbished, the master and second bedroom are very spacious. Some rooms have twin beds, but on request can be made into doubles - there was a slight shortage of hangers, and you only get one pillow per person, but all have separate air conditioning. The fourth room is slightly smaller than the rest - but not the end of the world.
We were thrilled with the outdoor space, with a terrace for breakfasting or BBQ's at the front, and the pool area at the rear. The BBQ is an extra charge but was well worth the hire.
The pool area makes the villa. It was more private than I expected in a residential area, and there is more than enough space to move around to chase/hide from the sun as required. The hot tub is also a nice feature - especially in the evenings
You are only few minutes walk to the local mini market's which are surprising well stocked, and the butchers and fishmonger another 5 minutes away see great produce for BBQ evenings.
The villa is on the quieter side of Marsascala but it is an easy pleasant walk into the town to the restaurants. Marsascala itself is a relatively small, quiet town which was perfect for us, it is not a place to visit if you want to be in the centre of lots of shops and bustle
We did have some maintenance issues during our stay - but they were dealt with quickly, and with as little fuss as possible by the villa owners who live next door. They are lovely people and were not invasive to our privacy.
WiFi in the property was excellent, and we were provided with plenty of towels which were changed mid week. There is also a washing machine
A couple of areas that could see improvement :
Although the villa comfortably accommodates 8, loungers and chairs around the pool area and on the balcony are lacking slightly, so you will need to move some furniture around if you are a group of 8
It would be useful if more plastic plates and cups were provided so they can be used safely around the pool and in the hot tub
Beware of the cost of electricity - it seems electricity is expensive in Malta, and I was very surprised at the charge on checking out. Be cautious on air conditioning use in the day and don't leave the hot tub running !
All said, a great holiday and a recommended rental
