“Really Muddy Paths”
Review of Carr Mill Dam

Went round the Carr Mill Dam today. With all the rain the paths were really muddy. Luckily I had my wellies on. Not much bird life about apart from Canada Geese. Also loads of people fishing. It's such a shame that St Helens Council won't take it over and make it more of an attraction.

Not far from me is this great waterway Care mill dam that leads into Stanley valley waterway and tell a story of how it was used for transporting textiles and foods around it's canal to various parts of the UK. The dam is a great walk in any weather and you'll see lots of local and not so local wildlife there. Between this and Stanley valley is a part know to locals as happy valley we're in summer many moons ago the whole family would spend the day here with a picnic and enjoy the fair that once stood at care mill entrance. Walking down from the dam you join Sankey canal which comes out at the ship in and you can then join it over the rd to walk up to the 9 arches bridge at Newton me willows. It's parts have been restored for cyclist, prams and wheelchair users so no one misses out on this great walk. Along the way you get an insight as go how the canal was used with the story and actual waterwheel and other lock memorabilia here.
