Owner description: This red-brick cottage remains largely unchanged since it was first occupied by early Chartists. The Victoria era was a time of remarkable British political change, which is brought back to life at Rosedene. An organic garden and orchard, full of seasonal fruit and vegetables, flourishes at the back of the house. This plot of land would have originally been allocated to the first occupants of the house for cultivation to supplement their diet and income. Rosedene is open the first Sunday of each month, March to December.

This little house represents a very interesting period of 19th century history - which isn't very well presented to visitors. The context requires a lot of questions to get straight. It is, however, important that it should survive.

A "one off" property owned by the National Trust. It is a single cottage and is OPEN ONLY ON THE FIORST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH AND BY APPOINTMENT. The guided tour was interesting and highlighted the Chartist movement and it's attempt to gain the right to vote for a wider range of people (in the mid 1800s) by enabling them to purchase property.
Fascinating whether you are historically minded or not.
Free for members of the NT.
