Pollina with its antique theatre, views and all, is a very interesting place off the main tourist map. If you are willing to get off the highway and drive 8 kilometres through the narrow, steep and convoluted Sicilian roads (an experience by itself, 8 kilometres of true Sicilian countryside), you will end up in a quiet historical town with a preserved picturesque antic theatre, church with beautiful marble statues from the 15th century, interesting little museum of “manna”, candy from sap of the ash tree. You will see Sicilian men and grandpas sitting and gossiping in the middle of the Plaza Duomo. You will cherish breath-taking 360° views since Pollina is placed atop a mountain, encompassed by a national park. And you will avoid queues of tourists. We got lost and a local gentleman drove us to our car. Local museum keeper gave us a private tour, let us taste the candy and the spirits made of it. Such nice people! I have been to Palermo, Agrigento, Taormina but this is something I whole heartedly recommend alongside the main sights since it has a distinct special charm.
