We thought it breathtaking from the outside. And rather nice inside. Of course, when in Évreux one should go. Even if it’s only for 15 minutes.

This is a Cathederal worth a visit if in Evreux. It is very well preserved and looks like it should but something is lacking, maybe it is the interior because the outside is nice especially around the back on the river side. There are little areas to sit or stand and gaze up at the beautiful architecture.
There is a huge organ inside which dominates the end of the building and looks too modern even futuristic but who am I to criticise French taste.
Inside is dark and the wood is even gloomy but that was the fashion then I suppose unlike today where it is all about light. There were banks of T.V. screens for those at the back to see what was going on should a ceremony be running. I am not used to seeing them in an old building and they remind me of what ruined Irish pubs with too many. Now I know it was so the congregation could see the services going on should they be down the back but still !
That all said it is still worth a visit if only to see the difference styles of architecture, furniture and gated off areas in the building.

Of course you are impressed when you see this huge old cathedral for the first time. It’s overwhelming.

But when you enter you can’t help noticing that the inside is a little messy. Part of the church is from the 11th century, part of it is from the Renaissance - and the rather misplaced organ is from 2005. I hope it sounds better than it looks.

Dozens of French churches are prettier and more interesting than this, sorry to say,

We were passing through and popped in for a quick look. The building itself is impressive, though having been to Amiens and Rouen previously, it is nothing particularly special. However, as an organist, I was interested in the new West End instrument. Sadly, there was nobody there to ask about it (there is a small display) and so we couldn't see it up close nor hear it. Indeed, there was no publicity regarding concerts either. Perhaps this is something they might address.
Perfectly acceptable (though quite pricey) coffee shop/bar just beyond the cathedral heading into town too, if you fancy refreshments.

Since the installation of the new pipe organ with its unusual "lotus flower" case in the around 2005, I have always wanted to see the organ. It is beautiful as well as unusual. The church itself is very beautiful with interesting grillwork around the choir.
