“Rough, but memorable”

Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 27 April 2018 via mobile

If you decide to do this let me just tell you now, the ride is long and rough. It is hours of dirt road and complete drop off cliffs with no railing. Once at the bird cliffs, the wind is so strong if you get close enough to the edge it will blow you right off into the ocean. And to top it all off I never saw any puffins. The journey of getting there is what made this so memorable and the views are quite incredible once you get there.

Like most reviews, the drive is long and a little scary, but it was day 10 of being in Iceland for us so this was nothing. I wasn’t sure if we’d see Puffins in April , but we did right by the top of the cliff. It was amazing. We must have been only 3 feet from them. It’s definitely a must go place if you can make to the Wild West Fjords.

I didn't really know what to expect, puffins were tops for one of my friends. It was a stunning drive out there and the views and surrounds fantastic. It was great fun seeing all the puffins, they just stand there near their burrows and look at you all cute. It was almost equally enjoyable seeing everyone try and take photos with the little guys because, since they burrow under the grass at the cliff's edge, you have to lay flat to inch out near where they reside.

The scale of birds is impressive the and surroundings way up in the Westfjords unforgettable. Make the trip if you can.

The journey to Latrabjarg along the scenic Westfjords coastal roads is itself so mesmerizing. The many jagged seashores provide nice driving experience. The view is superb and we even manage to sight a whale in the bay. We have to be careful when walking at the edge of the Clift. We can see many puffins perch at the protruding rock from the Clift. To view the puffin closely, we need to slowly crawl to the edge. We can really see the puffin in closed view, to enjoy every movements of the bird. The view of the bird with few white fish held in its beak is truly unforgettable. You will find the puffin so lovely and can spend hours just looking at them. Fortunately there were not many people even when we were there in summer.

Absolutely fantastic, 4x4 recommended to get there, worth a longer detour. If you have more time, do not go straight to the end of the road, but go left few kilometers before. Road is rough, but you will arrive at highest point. Views are absolutely fantastic, thousands of birds nest on the cliffs and you will likely meet very few or no people at all. During summer puffins can be spotted here.
