This is an old monastery that has been converted, in the ground, as the restaurant. the place is very beautiful. The menu is partly strictly traditional. Personally I remember a very good ribs lamb.

12 Monaci is a converted Cesterian Monastery based around a courtyard. It is the big 4 story building in Fontevivo, there is only one small sign to identify it as a hotel. Entrance is into the courtyard and car park is at the side of the building.

Each collection of rooms is based around a communial dorm setting, with 12 rooms on a two level setting with couches and activities (pool table, etc ) in these areas.
Rooms are good size with modern clean bathrooms. Room has fridge and television and views of surrounding countryside. Word for warning, hot water is HOT, so get balance right before showering.
The restaurant was another surprise, its architecture and spacious room was a nice setting to eat. Breakfast was excellent, buffet service, with options for pasteries, juices, breads and tea/coffee.
It markets itself as a wedding destination but doesnt scrimp for any visitors and we enjoyed our 12Monaci experience.

Parma's region cuisine is great and 12 Monaci is an excellent example of it.
We had great appetizers and "primi piatti" like Ravioli Duchessa or Anolini in brodo were simply delicious at very affordable prices.
The setting, an ancient cloister reconverted into an hotel, and the service were perfect.

We've stayed here in july 2013, unfortunately only for one night. Since we had a long drive that day, with a lot of traffic in the heat, and our youngest daughter wasn't feeling well, we didn't plan on having a real dinner that evening. But at our arrival around 07.30 pm, we were asked if we wanted to have dinner there. And so we did. Luckily because the dinner tables were set in the gallery of the monastery, with a nice view on the rest of this interesting old building and the meals were outstanding! We had carpaccio, pumpkin ravioli, duck and deer, and some fantastic desserts that even our three year old loved, even while she was feeling sick.

The hotelrooms are very small, former monk cells, but complete the rest of the building perfectly and have everything you need. The bathroom size was good. And the next morning we were surprised with a lovely breakfast with fresh eggs, made ever way we wanted them, a lovely cheese and meat dish and perfect espresso.

Letizia and her husband are doing an excellent job there!

What a gem! We are planning to go back the next time we are in that area.
