Description: Cayman's favorite beach restaurant - worth going further for! Part thatched tiki bar, part European beach chic, part breezy Californian cool, and a generous dose of Caribbean nauticalia – you’re in for an aesthetic treat at this Cayman beachfront restaurant with outdoor grill and wood fired pizza oven. Casual fine dining is the style; locally sourced ingredients, simple preparation, amazing flavours. The creative menu of affordable plates is a comforting crowd pleaser. Look out for Barefoot Beach BBQ, every Tuesday, where the crowds jump up to live music, get down to limbo, and enjoy unlimited local dishes from the BBQ buffet. The monthly Luna Del Mar full moon dinner serves up a 3-course sharing feast, with chill-out music and sky lanterns. Nestled on a palm fringed beachfront, in secluded Rum Point on the North Side of the island, the foodie destination Kaibo boasts a stunning all day menu and pretension-free service. You’ll enjoy the scenic drive to this tropical playground.

Had lunch there before we went to Stingray City. The best tuna I ever had, freshly caught that day! Delicious watermelon feta salad, excellent mojitos... I can't say enough about eating fresh food with my toes in the sand!

Loved the location, food and service were amazing. Tables were out on the beach in the sand with roofs over top for shade.

We stayed at the Kaibo Yacht Club and we enjoyed one evening at the beach bar & grill. They had live music, great buffet and great drinks!

We had lunch here as part of Captain Marvin's tour. As such, a buffet was already set up for us when we arrived and we just grabbed seats and had a nice lunch with nice views over the beach, dock and sea. We had BBQ chicken and Swabi fish over rice. It was a nice way to end our excursion with Captian Marvin.

We are home tonight from what we expect will be our worst experience on Grand Cayman. Despite its having sounded good (boat ride, BBQ, music and limbo and drinks), it was downright awful. Seriously.

Food was sub-par or worse. "BBQ" consisted of a chicken drumstick cooked at some other point in time. (No other chicken parts other than drumstick, either--no matter the photo on the website.) Nowhere was there an active char-grill or fire of any kind. There were containers of other food that could be spooned--some chicken, some maybe lamb (or goat?), some fish, all floating in liquid. It all became a mash on the plate, and none of it had any standout qualities. Other than the ubiquitous piece of corn on the cob, there were about four non-remarkable cold salad sides. Dessert was a tub of rum cake squares (at first confused with cornbread squares, such was its presentation) and meh chocolate-chip cookies. This wasn't BBQ; it was cafeteria food.

Band was so-so, and not nearly the reggae/calypso advertised; instead, it was a local rendition of popular songs. Volume was too loud to hear well at the table. Kids wanted to play corn-hole but could not, as there were no bean bags. Limbo had to be staffed by volunteers from the audience. We cleared out own plates to a nearby table and wiped down our own table, and waited through three different attempts by three different servers to get our hefty bill. Drink prices are super high--and you are stuck, captive, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. No boats depart earlier (or we would have been on one).

We caught a provided boat at 6 p.m. and returned at 9 p.m. Jumped with joy to be free.

Run, don't just walk away from this one. It is a heavy-handed tourist trap--with "trap" being the key word. We feel kind of dirtied by it all.

Thanks for letting us know what happened when you visited the Barefoot Beach BBQ. I completely understand how frustrated you and your family must have been when your food was not to your liking, especially as you had planned this trip to spend some quality time with your family whilst on vacation. I’m sorry for the problems caused to all of you.

I completely understand how annoying it must have been for you when there is nothing in a wide selection of food that you like. We know it’s really important that we’re listening to you, and I’m so sorry we didn’t offer you the food you expected.

I’m afraid your opinion of the food is a personal one, rather than one that is shared by the people of the Cayman Islands. The Tuesday Night Barefoot Beach BBQ showcases a line up of 14 dishes, including some of the Cayman's more traditional and authentic dishes. We do understand that local flavours are not for everyone, and we are truly sorry it spoilt your night.

The local band does play only soca, reggae and calypso songs in the first half of their set. If you contact Bonafide directly they’ll be able to consider your suggestion to remove the better known songs in the second half of their set. They do suggest however that it is during this second set of more popular songs that guests really start jumping up and dancing in the sand. Again, we understand this is not to everyone's liking.

Thanks again for getting in touch with us. We value your visit to Kaibo, and I hope we can welcome you and your family back to our shores again soon to offer you something more to your taste from our regular daily menu.

Safe travels,

Claire
