“Beautiful lodge-a perfect place to stay”
Reviewed 31 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We have just returned from a short break at Blackthorn Gate. We took our 19 month old son and stayed in Chaffinch Lodge, other members of my family stayed in one of the larger lodges on site. As Rita was aware we were bringing a toddler she provided us with a cot and high chair and even provided a baby gate on the stairs in my parents' lodge so that he was safe when we went to visit. Both lodges were beautiful, fully equipped and had plenty of space. They were very clean and comfortable-a home away from home! We loved sitting out on the balcony looking at the stunning view of Roseberry Topping. We have extended family in the area who visited us during our stay and they were equally impressed with the lodges. We also had easy access to the coast and to Durham which we visited during our stay. Our son loved all the space he had to play in and also loved visiting the animals on the farm. The owners have really thought of everything, providing books and games for rainy days and welcoming you with fresh eggs, tea bags and coffee. We will definitely be back to Blackthorn Gate. Thank you both for a wonderful holiday!

“Its blissful and all so quiet”
Reviewed 28 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We stayed at Blackthorn Gate on 15th July 2016 for a week.
We have stayed at the lodges several times before and I hope this review covers them stays too.

The lodges are set on a working farm on the outskirts of Stokesley, Middlesborough and the North Yorkshire moors national park.
They are in easy reach of the coast towns of Whitby and Scarborough.
For the pub fan you have two pubs in easy walking distance as well.

If you live in the city near a busy road and would like your ears to have a rest, this is the ideal place.
The lodges are set in the middle of fields about 1 mile away from the nearest road. They are accessible by car from the road by a smooth Tarmac road/track.
And don't worry if you like modern technology because they have wifi and the mobile signal is good too. (3 and EE)

The lodges are very clean and kitted out with an excellent range of kitchen equipment eg dishwasher, fridge freezer, oven, electricity hob, microwave, plates, cutlery etc. A washing machine is also provided in the out building.
The master bedroom has its own shower and toilet and the other bedroom can access the larger bathroom and sauna.
You will have an amazing nights sleep as its pitch black and quiet (bliss)

You can have some wonderful evenings here too. In the lodge you have a sitting area with TV and a balcony that you can use to watch the world go by.

As stated we have stayed here in all seasons. In winter they are lovely and warm as they have central heating.
In the hot summer they are lovely and cool as they can catch the breeze.

Yes it maybe slightly more expensive than other places, but this is a home from home. All you need to provide for your stay is the food and drink. That is it no hidden charges for extra stuff.

If you have kids they will love looking at all the farm animals etc.
If you like to walk you will not have any problems with that.
If you are looking for a romantic holiday then look no further.
And like me you just want to get away from it all then this is the place for you.

Thanks to the family for making our holiday a wonderful one.
See you soon

“The Best We've Ever Found!”
Reviewed 7 July 2015 for a stay in October 2014

These beautiful Lodges are so comfortable, spacious and well appointed that, try though we may, we cannot find better anywhere in the country so we just keep going back!! For peace and quiet, they are absolutely ideal - so far from the nearest road that you can barely *see* the road, even using the thoughtfully provided binoculars!
Rita and Mike are THE perfect hosts and go 'above and beyond' to make sure that guests are well provided for.
I have quite severe mobility issues but find the ramped access is very adequate and the utility room is just perfect for recharging my mobility scooter without it being in the way. The en-suite bathroom isn't wheelchair accessible *but* is literally only a few short paces from the bed so it's still perfectly fine for the vast majority of elderly and/ or walking impaired guests.
We love the provision of binoculars so that we're able to watch the wildlife (which abounds!) and hubby has frequently enjoyed teaching a maggot or two to swim in Mike's private fishing ponds! :-) We can't do other than give Blackthorn Gate a HUGE thumbs up!
It *IS* a farm though so, for safety reasons, young children need supervision and dog owners need to keep their pets on leads around the sheep and lambs, most especially in spring.

Thank you for your lovely review and we look forward to seeing you both again in October. Would just like to let people know that we have 2 styles of Lodge and the one which can be booked through Trip Advisor does have a large walk in shower on the ground floor which is suitable for wheelchair users.

“FABULOUS!”
Reviewed 23 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

From booking to arrival Rita and Mike were helpful and informative. We had never been to Stokesley before and needed somewhere lovely to stay for a family wedding - Blackthorn Gate was perfect. Near enough to the local villages which have a wide array of bars and restaurants, delis and shops but with far surrounding views of the countryside so you felt in the middle of nowhere. The Lodge was lovely, super clean and well equipped. I am a very fussy traveller and I was delighted with everything; great linens and towels, super spacious living accommodation, games and books galore. I cannot recommend Blackthorn Gate highly enough, it is a beautiful lodge in an amazing setting with everything you could need a short drive away. Perfect for a family getaway. We will definitely come back

“Certainly one of our best choices!”
Reviewed 14 February 2015 for a stay in January 2015

The lodge was really comfortable and warm even though we had snow outside, it never felt chilly, and was just as described. The views were stunning. We took our dog, and we really enjoyed the walks around the farmland and beyond. We were in an ideal location, not far from the beach at Saltburn by the sea, and less than 1 hour from Whitby, which was a really nice place to visit, and some really quaint villages to look around Lots of lovely pubs nearby for great meals, and of course complete peace and quiet.
