This was by far the best part of our entire week in Ireland!!! The walk was a bit strenuous at times, and Pat kept up a fast pace, but we stopped often at the best views for pictures and for Pat to tell some stories and give information about the path, the local farmers, etc., so we always had plenty of time to catch our breath! It lasted about 4 hours total, and we walked about 5 miles. There were no bathrooms along the way, but towards the end, we stopped at the visitor center and had the chance to use the restroom and buy sandwiches and water. The entire walk was amazing because we were so close to the edge of the cliffs, and no one else was around! The views were absolutely unreal, and luckily we had amazing weather, so the experience was just magical! And Pat made it so much better because he was sooo passionate about the path, the land, everything. It was amazing to hear about what it was like to grow up there, and about the experiences of the community of farmers who live there. You could do the hike alone, but it was SO MUCH better with Pat as a guide. Plus, it gives you a way to get back to Doolin when you’re done (5 euros for the bus), and it really doesn’t cost much!!

You absolutely HAVE to do this walk. It’s an adventure walk, so do remember to wear proper walking / trekking shoes as well as appropriate clothing (windbreaker). The weather on the day was pretty foggy and it looked like rain was incoming. But I’ll have to say we really lucked out on the weather! Only when we reached the visitor centre it started pouring.

I was wearing around 4 layers but nearing the end I felt like taking off at least two! It’s quite a work up the cliffs as there are some steep hill climbing to do buuuut it really provided a good challenge.

There were also some areas where you were right at the edge of the cliffs and Pat provided options for just walking along the other fence side. Alan was also at some points helping us cross a few more scary passes. I thought that was great.

Pat also provided stops along the way (often after some of the uphill climbs!) which were much needed for some water

It is definitely the way to experience the Cliffs of Moher.

Many thanks to Pat, Elizabeth and Alan for the assistance, stories and tissues (!) along the way :)

The walk can be done without Pat Sweeney or his guides: the whole path is signaled. No need to pay for this. Just make sure you go with at least one or two more people.
The guides do not provide any valuable information and when they do say something, they do not gather everyone, they just say their bit and continue.
Also, they go quite fast so enjoying the view is something you do only twice or three times during the entire walk.
And it's not as they say that you walk with the locals: they take around +30 people, which is a lot for everyone to have a good quality experience.
I definitely do not recommend this paid walk.

We walked from the visitor center back to Doolin. It's a must when you are in this region. Simply stunning view and a nice and easy walk of about 2 hours.

Highlight of my trip! PERIOD! The Cliffs are obviously the top site in all of Ireland, but avoid the large groups and have the cliffs all to yourself by hiking the 10 miles from Doolin to the visitors center and back. My wife and I did it in about 5 hours (with a ton of time for stops to take pictures and soak in the view).

I will say that there are definitely points where you are walking on the edge of a cliff. So, come prepared and probably with children.
