I remember the first dinner at Dave’s new Italian restaurant more than ten years ago - it was the test evening before the official opening.

Ten years later we have had every dish on the menu (including lots of seasonal specials), we celebrated engagements, birthdays, had farewells, entertained clients and connected with friends.

It is one of our favourite places - and what makes it so successful is its consistency and quality. We never have to wonder whether the food or the wine or the service will be good - we know it will be! The same waiters know us by name, favourite menu options never disappoint, there is always something interesting and unusual on the wine list, and Dave is always there with a story, a new wine and a friendly smile.

It’s not the cheapest restaurant in town, but when we feel like spoiling ourselves or impressing new visitors to the Mother City - A Tavola remains at the top of our list.

Bonus - safe and free undercover parking in the evenings.

Superb! What a great place. Extended menu, great wines and service/quality to match. Friends get together for first time in months and everything was from the top drawer. Owner shared a few glasses of Treinspoor red wine from the award winning Sadie family to top the evening.

Classic italian restaurant which still make there own pastas and sauces from scratch. I had a seefood pasta which were excellent prepared, and with abundant seefood in it. Portions is reasonable as well as the price. Recommended

Recommended by a local friend we dined at A Tavola with another local guest.

Not the nicest of settings and situated on the ground floor of a residential block we were greeted with friendly service and a lively atmosphere.

This is a proper traditional Italian restaurant rather than a Pizzeria with specialities such as Vitello Tonato, Calves Liver and a super small chocolate plate for dessert.

The owner is a real wine enthusiast and there are some very unusual local selections at keen prices as well as some Italian wines for those that might want them.

Well above average and a return visit.

We found this restaurant on our 2016 trip to Cape Town almost by accident. You never know if your memory cheats you, but visiting again on 2020 proves we were not wrong! The food was as great as ever and the wine list excellent, as was the welcome. After 10 days in Cape Town eating at some really good places, this is was where chose for our last night and the only place we did twice. Keep it up. We look forward to seeing you again on our next trip!!
