We did a weekend package here mainly because we had some gift vouchers. It's a great place to explore the surrounding area especially Cambridge, Newgrange and Knowth.
The service we received from all staff from checking in to checking out was superb. That's to be expected though when you consider it cost €440 For the package we opted for. That included two morning's breakfast and a dinner. The food was exceptionally good. It was nice that they had a selection of craft beer on tap but their gin selection was a bit basic as were their tonic waters.
The first night we ordered a handful of starters from the menu and were impressed by how goid they were and the portion sizes. Good value for money. If we hadn't had the dinner included the next night we'd have eaten them both nights.
The room was nice and spacious. The bed was comfortable and large.
Traffic noise on the Friday night prevented us from opening the window to cool down a warm room.
Nice areas to sit throughout the hotel. Bright and comfortable with funky decor in places where you instantly felt relaxed. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Nice grounds too.
Two lovely golden retrievers live on site and lime to befriend guests sitting outside. They're very well behaved.
All in all an enjoyable weekend getaway.

Visited Barberstown today and was refused service due to us having our newborn twins with us who might I add were asleep in their buggy at the time.

Staff seen us arrive at reception and only informed us of this when we asked for assistance to open the door into the restaurant. There is a sign at the front entrance saying food served all day but nothing to inform people that children are not permitted on the premises. Very frustrating. Will not be returning as always Barberstown castle is so unaccommodating for families.

location is stunning if you get the weather also the old part of the castle is beautiful. However, I've stayed in better 3* 4* 5* hotels before.Reception is very stark not very welcoming, staff are polite though. Not very accommodating I asked for a latte and they don't do them?? in fairness that was at the wedding. I would have gone to the main building but the next day at breakfast I asked again for latte after breakfast and again" we don't do them". Table wasn't set up, had to ask for each item, milk, spoon, cutlery, butter fresh tea was cold etc. The buffet was small table with not much on it. I asked for poached eggs, bacon and toast and they forgot the bacon. I Paid €195 for the room which I didn't mind as it was a treat for my husbands birthday even though we were attending a wedding. Certainly not worth the money. Also there were no facilities for tea or coffee in the room. I wouldn't want to stay again but definitely would go for afternoon tea even though that is overpriced you are paying for the name and location only.

Absolutely beautiful property, great rooms. The breakfast is fabulous. The location is a bit off the beaten track but the surrounding villages provide local pub fare that are good alternatives. This hotel has world class water pressure. No wonder Clapton decided to buy the joint! Would go back there anytime.

My sister got married here last year. Although the hotel and grounds are beautiful the service she received and our family received was appalling. There was on going problems with bedrooms as guests weren't allowed book rooms over the phone they had to go online and the system didn't work for lots of guests. She complained and I complained several times but nothing changed and on the day there were guests who had booked but the hotel didn't have a room for them. we never received an apology for this. The biggest shock was arriving at the hotel 2 months before the wedding to find it was alike a building site as they had been building at the hotel but didn't tell my sister or her fiancee. When we did some investigating we found out that they didn't tell and couples who were getting married. There were trucks and JCBs around the hotel and the entrance covered in dirt, it was not the beautiful place we all viewed for the wedding a year before. My sister had her ceremony in the hotel and during it we could see diggers driving past, not exactly romantic. The food was good on the day and the staff were very nice. But over the year and half before the wedding we had to deal with 7 different wedding planners. They were all very nice but as soon as we would talk to one, they'd be gone and there would be a new one dealing with us instead. We had a meal in the restaurant the night before the wedding and had to wait an hour and a half before we received our starters as there were so few staff working. The waiters we so stressed and clearly struggling it was awful to watch. Any time we tried to ask for a manager we were told there was none available. we didn't know if they were just avoiding us or if there really were no managers around. My sister and her husband paid a lot of money for a wedding they thought would be perfect in a perfect place, but it turned out to be so stressful for the entire family and a huge disappointment. The hotel only cares about your money once you've paid don't expect to hear from them again.
