Description: At Monks we have a special love for the sea and you can taste it in every delicious mouthful of our authentic, traditional food – lovingly prepared with only the freshest and finest, locally-produced ingredients. And it’s all paired with the picture-postcard prettiness, harbour charm and welcoming country comfort that is the beautiful old fishing port of Ballyvaughan – pearl of the Burren.

We stumbled across Monk’s seafood restaurant and bar during a trip to the Burren in County Clare! I had mussels and homemade fries and my fellow travelers had mussel and clam
Linguine - we all agreed the food was delicious, the staff were friendly and attentive, the surrounding countryside was stunning and it was one of the highlights of our trip!

We ate dinner twice at Monks during our four day stay in Ballyvaughan because we had such a good experience the first time. We were very pleased.

We stopped in the sweet little town of Ballyvaughan as we passed through on the way home from a road trip to the cliffs/the Burren/fanore beach.
Its a lovely little pub/restaurant situated by the water. Nice ambiance plenty of seating inside and out although very busy even on a Tuesday evening.
We sat outside at the front and found it strange that in these seats you must go inside yourself to order and pay before you get your meal. Felt staff really did not want to be serving food in this area and made you feel as if you were putting them out when you asked for a glass of water or for previous plates to be cleared ect.
The food however was fantastic. I had the prawns and my friend had the muscles which were in a delicious cream sauce, I would definitely recommend.
Portions are generous but probably match the pricing.
The only think I could suggest was the abundance of flies outside made it hard work to enjoy our meal. Now I understand this is out of their control but it could be better managed by making sure dirty plates are cleared and maybe a citronella candle or two wouldn't go a miss.

Great service. Pleasant and clean surroundings. Good but not great seafood. Good prices for the area. Nice wine list.
