“Great location close to Dundalk - a real Irish cottage!”
Reviewed 7 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

My husband and some friends of ours rented the cottage on a trip ro Dundalk for a wedding at Darver Castle. Accomodations are limited in the town so the cottage was perfect for a real taste of Ireland! We would stay again. Everything went smoothly with the rental. The place was in good condition.

Don't expect shampoo, conditioner, etc... need to bring that!!

Two couples enjoyed their relaxing and comfortable stay at the McEvoy Cottage. It truly is a beautiful spot and easy access to Dundalk and the Cooley Peninsula. The accommodations were great and they even had a grill! Just sitting in the cozy kitchen with the beautiful view of the Mountains of Mourne was delightful. I would say with humor, that guests should be asked not to feed the dogs, but I must admit I adored them!

“Propery comfortable and ideally suited as a base for an enjoyable holiday.”
Reviewed 15 May 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Situated in a beautiful part of Ireland, McEvoy Cottage has been furnished and equipped to a good standard to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable holiday. Steeped in history we particularly liked the extensive background information that was provided in relation to the cottage and the family who own it. We were also impressed by the old traditional fire surround and open fire in the lounge which helps create a cosy atmosphere - lit prior to our arrival which was a nice touch. Had we visited during the summer months I’m pretty sure the large decked area and BBQ would have been well used – it certainly looked good.

The peaceful setting makes the cottage a perfect place to relax and unwind but it is also suitable for those wishing to use it as a base to explore the surrounding area and to do that and for access the use of a motor vehicle is essential.

The nearest town is Dundalk which is about 5 minutes away by car but there are also a number of other lovely places within a short drive such as Carlingford and Blackrock. Also both Belfast and Dublin are less than an hour’s drive - Black Cab tour and the Titanic Experience are a must if going to Belfast. We would also recommend a visit to Stone Age Passage Tomb at Newgrange in the Boyne Valley which is about 30 minutes away just off the road to Dublin.

Prior to our visit we were told that local restaurants would pick us up and take us back – we were a bit sceptical regarding this claim but I can confirm that there are some that do in fact do that. Although we were there for a week unfortunately we didn’t manage to visit the Ballymascanlon House Hotel which is only a few minutes away by car – we were saving that for our last night but unfortunately we were invited to go elsewhere – it does however look impressive.

All in all we had a great holiday and would recommend McEvoy Cottage to anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable holiday or a base from which to explore this lovely part of Ireland.

“Exact fit.”
Reviewed 11 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We had a group of six for our trip. From the start, we had great communication with the owner, Suzanne. She would always respond within a day of emailed inquiries. The cottage itself is the exact fit for anyone looking for cozy, quiet accommodation in a rural area. It sits right on an inlet for the bay. It had a fully functional kitchen and 3 bedrooms plus a den and fit the six of us with no trouble. The place was very clean when we arrived and we found our way around very easily. There are showers in each bedroom with a modern water system for each so we all had hot showers with good pressure (This is a big issue for us Americans, I know.). We never heard a peep out of the neighbors, with the exception of three gregarious jack russell terriers that live next door and come running to greet you each time you pull in. They were just a free perk to this already terrific place. One piece of advice; If you are from the States, let Suzanne know ahead of time. She apparently has a much easier method for getting the very affordable rental payment to her bank. International wire transfer over here is an expensive pain in the bottom. The place was great and I would stay there again. Thanks, Ms. Murphy!
