Owner description: As Ireland's only Model Village, the West Cork Model Railway Village in Clonakilty, Co. Cork is a fully scaled handmade model of the old West Cork Railway Line with fully working trains and the towns that the railway served during the 1940s. Take a spin on our iconic Road Train through the beautiful town of Clonakilty. Indoor and outdoor play areas. Relax and enjoy a cup of coffee/tea in our cafe or visit our Gift Shop in an authentic train carriage.

Visited with 3 small kids. I’m not sure what they are selling here. If it’s the model villages then my gang had zero interest (being honest neither did I ). If it’s the small trains that chug around the place and the remote control boats then that’s a winner for the young ones. There’s also the choo choo train that circles Clonakilty town, bearing in mind it’s been an exceptionally hot week it was way too stuffy and hot for the kids. After that they cooled down with an ice lolly and then there’s a small playzone before home. Look it worked for us but I don’t think I will be as positive in a few years time. There’s just not much going on for the 5+ age group unless you have an interest in miniature west Cork villages based on how they looked 70 years ago.

Beautifully crafted model villages with miniature trains running between them.

Great care and attention has been given to create a mesmerising landscape.

It does make you nostalgic for days gone by and wish Cork still had a fully functioning train service running to all the towns.

Make sure to have a few €1 coins to hand as they have remote control boats which are great fun!

As we were pressed for time we didn't take advantage of the guided tour of Clonakilty and did not use the play area or cafe.

Most members of staff we met were very friendly and welcoming. One though seemed anxious and stressed which was a bit off putting.

Overall a lovely way to pass the time on a beautiful day.

It is wonderful to find beautiful places like this . The model villages and little train lines are beautifully looked after and the fun ride on the road train alone is worth the price of entry.
It’s very sad to see horrible reviews from Americans!!
There is a play area outside and also an indoor one plus a cafe.
The staff are all lovely too.
See you next year!

Makes you wish for the railway's return to West Cork. This is a must see spot which portrays villages of West Cork when they were served by trains.
