This is an amazing place for a long or short walk. There are free leaflets with maps in the car park but it's best to download one before you go as they often run out. It's a beautiful wood in a gorge with some fabulous follies, waterfalls and stunning viewpoints. Take a camera, and wear good boots as the paths can be slippy and are steep in places. I would avoid after heavy rain as the paths could be dangerous. It's not really suitable for smaller children as there are some hidden drops if you go off the paths. There's a free car park on the right as you leave Grewelthorpe on the way to Masham but don't rely on it for spaces at weekends or holiday periods as it's very small.
