I walk my dogs here constantly, it is magnificent and they have a tremendous time. There are plenty of follies to admire along the paths and also a number of small waterfalls.

After reading the views, I was expecting a lovely walk with my puppy. What we were greeted by was a treacherous walk, loads of muck and to make matters worse the path we wanted to go on was blocked by the river! We won’t be going again, and we are so lucky to be in this area of the country there are so many better walks on offer!

We had visited the Himalayan Garden nearby and had a bit of spare time. There were leaflets with alternative walks on a post in the car park and without these you could easily miss things as the way marking is a bit basic.

The gorge is pretty deep and offers some spectacular views. Of particular interest are the follies, grottoes and waterfalls that you come across. Very nice!

Had a lovely walk around the woods and ended up nearly doing the longest suggested route. Some lovely views. We parked in the Masham(?) Car park but there were no maps left so we just made our own route up and in doing so missed a couple of the highlights e.g. the 40ft waterfall and grotto but would go back to see them and visit at another time of year as will be different in the seasons.
Worth a visit and free car park makes it a great, free, family day out.

Although a few high narrow paths so children must be accompanied.

Parking in the free car park on the Masham road, I walked down to the river and found the beach other reviewers have spoken about. The day was crisp and clear and the autumn colours magnificent. Along the paths, the area is studded with sturdy benches, placed specifically to let you capture the wonderful views. My friend and I walked through the woods and into Grewelthorpe where we found a warm welcome at the community cafe set up in the village hall. Yummy cakes and drinks at very reasonable prices.
If you have a chance go to Hackfell Woods, you really won't be disappointed!
