What a great experience! Two whole hours of uninterrupted hands on experience. Each of the workings of the loco were explained, and shown up close, and then hands on driving up and down the line and in and around various sidings.
Nothing was too much trouble for either the driver or the fireman. All questions were answered by this very knowledgeable and friendly pair. I got to shovel coal and feed water into the boiler as well as drive backwards and forwards up and down the line and into the shed sidings. A quick tour of the shed was included so I could see the locos currently being preserved.
As well as the workings of the loco, points and signals operation were also explained along with the use of tokens for single line working and how they are used to unlock points frames.
If you want a real hands on experience with just you and the crew for an uninterrupted 2 hours of hugely interesting fun then this one is definitely for you. At the end of my time my wife, daughter-in-law and 2 very excited grandchildren joined us and we had as may trips up and down the line from Rowsley to Matlock as we wanted at no extra charge.
Brilliant. Highly recommended for train buffs and big kids!
